Dave the Renegade:
Thought this was a handy little motor to have.I would think you could make more money doing odd jobs with that, than a big wagon these days.
hiya,
Dave you could well be right about the little-un making more money than than the big fellahās a good pal of mine lost his big licence due to ill-health so had no option other than to get rid of his artic and down grade to a long wheel based Transit to keep him going until retirement age he was an O/D and he told me he was no worse off running about with bits and bobs than he was running about with the big motor, smaller fuel bills and shoestring maintainence and he was always in demand to deliver stuff that was needed yesterday, he had no regrets and made a decent living and the cheap labour ie me when i did the odd trip for him iām still awaiting my pay packet but what are mates for.
thanks harry long retired.
Hi Harry,
Those little Izuzuās carry about 3 or 4 ton,a handy vehicle for delivering small loads of any kind to awkward places.I notice a lot of these chaps doing gardening have even smaller trucks with their mowers etc on the back, with a section on them for throwing the grass and rubbish to cart away.A very versatile vehicle and economical I would think.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
Do these little motors need a tacho or whatever is on the go now, i know that 7 1/2 tonners came under that ruling but has it changed, talk about being rusty iām more like corroded.
thanks harry long retiredā¦
stay rusty harry , you want nowt to do with them lorry things , youāve done your share , let the young uns do it now and relax . my wife says if i set foot in one of those things sheāll call for the men in the white coats because sheāll know iāve gone loopy . you couldnāt do early starts anyway , you would probably still be over the limit after your nightcap(s) cheers , dave

Hi Harry,
Yes it has changed, any vehicle and/or a vehicle and trailer exceeding 3.5 tonnes gross weight requireās a tachograph. So that little Izuzu would have one.
Cheers Dave.

msgyorkie:
Hi there. Im a Holbrooks driver and im working out of the Gore quarry at the moment. (im in a CF artic) Yes we chase the work and Tarmac usually keep us busy around the country.
We also do a lot of Runway Resurfacing with either Colas or Larfage. We have worked on all the major airports and we also go abroad such as The Falklands and Jersey.
Yes the natives do get upset (such as the Isle of Man) but they do get offered work but usually turn it down because either they dont want it or cant do it.
The Falklands job is now coming to an end and the boys are flying home this week. They have been away for quite a few months just coming home for 2 weeks at christmas and 2 weeks in febuary.
Didnāt some of your wagons run to RAF Brize Norton whilst all the improvement work was going on?

I took loads of limestone in for the new hardstandings. Fitzpatrick had a batching plant there which we took occasional loads of sand to, although they used a lot of recycled concrete dust and concrete chippings as aggregate. I think I remember your wagons running to the temporary LaFarge asphalt plant that was setup about 5 years ago when the runway was modernised. I pent a few weeks bringing in sand for bedding the runway lights cabling in and then moving road planings off the taxiways. At the time, the dead servicemen were still being brought into Brize and the work had to stop when a body was repatriated.
I wonder how long msgyorkie and his mates will be here now the new financial year kicks in Nathan. I would think the work will drop off from now on.
Cheers Dave.
