Don’t see many 4x2 units pulling tipper trailers, seen on the A44 Kington bypass.

Not a 4x2 Dave, he’s smuggling a Mini between the drive and steer axles.

He’s still running at 44 ton or 41 then hammer ?

Craig on one of Ivor Duggans Fodens, seen on the A44 Kington bypass.

One of M A Evans Scania artics, seen on the A44 Kington bypass.

Another of the many Tarmac artics, hauling from the local quarries, seen on the A44 Kington bypass.

Followed by two more, plus a lowloader,on Kington bypass.

Do the quarries near you cover Cotswold areas, Dave? Tarmac are supplying type 1 for water mains work in Chipping Norton and wondered if they’re from your neck of the woods? They’re doing the pipe shingle for it out of Eysey Manor Pit near Cirencester for it…

Yes Nathan they do,some of the lorries have been going down that area. They have a lot of work at the moment, apart from the regular hauliers they have artics from all over the Country backloading out of them. They have a high rated PSV gritstone, that is one of the reasons they are always busy.
Cheers Dave.

Topmix have a lot on around here aswell; They’ve got 900m3 somewhere (I think for an industrial park near Honda, Swindon) and they did the new A34 Viaduct last year at Wolvercote. They used to have 2 “Oxford” Plants, Oxford North was the old Pioneer Plant at Kidlington (now closed), and South was at Thrupp Lane, Radley. They built a super plant at Radley recently, that can load 2 mixers at once (an 8wheeler in no time apparently). They must be really undercutting as they’ve got the new Hercules Simulator Building at Raf Brize Norton aswell…

Their old Boss from this area who was the MD of Tarmac Western is now Chief Exec of Breedon Aggregates who have a quarry not far away, quite a few of the the top blokes have followed him from up here,it will be interesting to see how many hauliers will follow,as they are advertising for lorries.

Definitely 44 tom gross on six axles, can’t see an artic paying running on less,as you know they aren’t earning much as it is.Another two drivers made redundant this week that hauled out of these quarries.I’m afraid there will be a lot more in the next few weeks.
Cheers Dave.

You’re probably right Dave, there are a couple of contracts being given back/sold here and a couple of retirees too.

To be fair, I’ve had my best month since the recession. However, the rates are still poor and the fuel is killing it. I think we should be asking for better rates but most people just seem happy to be busy. :unamused:

I can’t help but feel that the current workload is being inflated by the councils desparately spending money before the government cuts their arms off in a couple of weeks. In the last week I’ve been to a lane in the middle of nowhere, that goes nowhere and has two houses on it - that was getting two layers of tar :open_mouth: . And Saturday I took tar to resurface outside a factory that was knocked down two years ago…

It’s been very busy through March at these quarries hammer, but last March was the same.I think about 212,000 tons went out from them, possibly more this time.It remains to be seen, what happens in the new financial year, and if the haulage rates go up.

Hereford haulier Phil Preece Scania, seen on the A44 Kington bypass.

Possibly a Glos’/Worcs motor, Dave? I’m sure I’ve seen that on the M5 somewhere?

It’s strange to see an empty tipper travelling along Kington bypass travelling away from the quarries, unless it’s going to collect sand from Wellington near Hereford.I met the same lorry on the other side of Radnor Forest on Monday.
Cheers Dave.
