dave was it you that drives a red transit with spotlights on it?? saw one on the A458 today and thought it may have been you?

I was working in Llandrindod Wells this morning, only been on the A44 today, this is my transit, got a silver sprinter as well.

The Transit’s looking very smart Dave.
cheers
John.

Had it refurbished and resprayed John, during November and December, probably a waste of money, but it was either that or scrap it.It’s a good back up vehicle and mechanically good, even though it’s done nearly 250,000 miles.
Cheer Dave.

That’s some mileage Dave, has the engine been done up.
cheers John.

It’s never been touched John.I have had the oil changed every 5,000 miles with the filter, and the other filters diesel and air at 10,000.It doesn’t use any oil between services and still has the original turbo. It had done 1,900 miles when I picked it up from London just over eleven years ago.
Cheers Dave

One of Calor tankers heading back too their Three ■■■■■ depot, seen on the A438 between Clyro and Llowes,Radnorshire.

Dave the Renegade:

A Scania wagon and drag tipper, seen on the A470 at Felenfach near Brecon. One for Harry Gill,if we can persuade him to drive a tipper :exclamation:  .

These cause problems when tipping tar when there are lots of wagons queueing.

Say the trailer gets tipped, the back wants cleaning and that takes time. The trailer wants dropping somewhere and that takes time and is sometimes not actually possible on site so has to be dragged off and put somewhere dow the road.

Whilst all this is going on the tar gang are waiting, as are the other tippers in the queue. Do they wait for the wagon and drag to sort himself out, park his trailer somewhere or do they carry on? Obviously, they’ll carry on laying tar. Now “Mr Trailer” finishes cleaning off, parks his trailer and comes back. Where does he go in the queue? Next? Or do you take it like a new wagon has arrived on site and he has to go to the back of the queue? I know what I’d say.

A guy had one locally, caused quite a few problems apparently.

i wish i had £1 for every time i have ghugged up the 470 , over the top , turn right over the dam and down to hirwaun onto the heads of the valleys . i also used to load out of onllwyn and come back that way , great run on a sunny day !! cheers , dave

I used to go over there a lot myself Dave, back in the late 60’s early 70’s,still go over there now and again as you can see. It’s a lot different now with the dual carriageways from Hirwaun through to the M4,also the Merthyr bypass and dualed through to the M4 that way as well. But there was more character to the old roads twisting and winding, different day and age  .
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave Dad used to go over here a lot during the seventies taking chippings from tonfanau to the cardiff docks. I remember going with him during school holidays. The volvo f86 used to struggle there running at 32 tons

Have seen a few in different parts of the country hammer.I thought they must have their limitations, there must be a lot of sites where you can’t drop the trailer, let alone tip it.Like a lot of things, seems a good idea in principle, but in reality not.

I’m not surprised Merfyn.I used to struggle with a Bedford TK at 14 ton gross back in the 60’s with a 330 engine, flew up there with a KM at 16 ton gross with a 466 engine.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Bit off topic here Dave “as usual,” but years ago in my early twenties used to do a lot of spuds from the farms around Dundee and some of them could only accomodate a solo vehicle, so the form was drop the trailer wherever and go to the loading point put six tons on the eight legger take it to the trailer tranship it leave the trailer lad to rope and sheet it, return to the farm load sixteen tons and rope and sheet that “and the load had to be well strawed between the sacks” go and pick the trailer and lad up "usually sheltering under the drag out of the rain “it always seemed to rain in Dundee” when i got spuds as a backload, the norm when returning to load the motor was get in the queue and wait your turn, hence always tried to avoid tatties as a return load but the guvnor was happy with the rate so if there was nowt else it was a case of any port in a storm, and it got you pointing towards home,
thanks harry long retired.

Just read on RT that MA Bullock of Kington has had it’s O-License revoked for loss of repute; Something to do with unauthorised operating centre in a quarry…

There are a lot of spuds grown in Herefordshire Harry, also quite a few in this area.Several hauliers were using wagon and drags on them a few years back, but most of the spuds are moved in bulk or the bagged one’s in curtainside artics. Most of the hauliers I see on spuds are on that workk most of their time.C M Mercer who’s lorries I put on this thread are a big grower and merchant with cold stores etc.
Cheers Dave
