We saw this Volvo FH on the side of the M54,near the Wellington junction, when we came back up from Telford, they were starting to recover it.A tidy bit of off road parking.Hope the driver was ok,and still has his job.
it was a reno dave i think and aprantly i was told at work today that the curtains where round the cab and that it was on forgian plates
Yes wazzy, when I think about it,did look like a Renault Premium when I went down by,only spotted it at the last minute, thought they would be getting it from there when we came back, which they were.
Cheers Dave.
they most of draged it out tonight because the closed the A5 from junction 7 and sendin the traffic down the old a5

I thought they would have to close the road to pull it out, probably not much damage to the lorry, just an expensive recovery bill.
Cheers Dave.

The FL models are doing well down your way Dave; they’re getting rare around here now Chris Hayter’s got rid of theirs’. There’ll be a few when the showies come out of hibernation…

Still a few about Nathan, they are getting less each year.have never heard anybody this way complain about them when they ran them.Only downside I have heard was from the artic drivers saying they were too small with the sleeper cab on nights out.
Cheers Dave.

I used to load a few and they were always among the best payloads; 16odd ton on 6wheelers depending on MGW, I know one OD that could get nearly 21.50 on a FL10 8w. Payloads are getting crap thesedays; I can carry more on my 6w than many of the 8w grab wagons that use our tip…

The payloads are getting less because the lorries are getting bigger engines, also the easy sheet systems and on board weighers and other add on’s are putting the tare up.The much maligned Leyland Reiver was carrying 17 tons years ago,at 24 ton gross, now as you say the modern six wheelers struggle to carry 16 ton.The eight wheelers are down on payload as you said, now the artics are doing a lot of their work.End result, rates are crap hauliers going belly up with drivers out of work.Quite a few in Herefordshire have been made redundant in the last week.
hiya,
Tare weights up with all the add-ons, um maybe the guvnor’s will strip all those useless spotlights, air horns and silly sheep catchers off their motors and return them to looking like proper motors and not show motors, all that rubbish does ruin the appearance of a lorry, and the joke i’ll bet none of the lamps are set to be of any use in fog or inclimate weatherand the roof mounted ones are’nt legal anyway, i am hiding behind the wheelie bin to avoid the missiles.
thanks harry long retired.

Probably won’t see so many lights and air horns on the new lorries much longer Harry.I don’t think many of them will be able to afford them.Could be some cheap lights around if you fancy some for your car
.
Cheers Dave.

Just looked on a truck accessories website and got a shock when I saw the prices of spotlights
then add the price of the lightbars, the wiring loom, then replacement lamps when trees break them etc. I’ve suggested we cut the bodies down to reduce tare weight (say from 18m3 on an 8w to 16m3) we’re very very rarely full up so it’s just dead weight to carry around.

I think a lot of lorries are going to go Nathan, half of them are working for nothing, the rates aren’t enough to pay for the fuel and a driver, let alone the other costs. There is no profit in haulage around this way at the moment.Once we are into the new financial year a lot will be gone.
Cheers Dave.
