A tidy looking lorry this one Dave. Makes you wonder though, if he runs and all Scania fleet, why did he choose a Volvo as his ‘Special’ flagship?

Not sure on that hammer they have got another FH now I think, also a Daf eight legger, but the other eleven are Scania.
Cheers Dave.

Iirc Volvo celebrated 80 years with this special edition FH, so Goughs in turn used it for their 80th anniversary.
Probably, also keeps Scania on their toes.

What do they think of their Renaults Dave? We had one of the new Premium Landers on demo, drivers weren’t that impressed…

Hi Nathan,
They must like them,as they have about ten of them.I was CPC holder for them for a few years after Ken sadly passed on.They only had a couple of Maxtor 6 wheelers then, all the rest were Fodens with a few Leylands.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Still looking in Dave but have’nt said hello for a while, I do like these Renaults never drove one but always thought they would have made a nice looking drawbar outfit for general haulage which in this day and age would be as rare as chicken’s teeth, if there was one in existence i’d love to see it, wags and drags would look stupid with todays top heavy cabs and these look to be just about right and should have enough poke to do the job.
thanks harry long retired.

About time I posted some older lorries. This Leyland Comet was bought new by owner driver Derek Layton from Eardisley, later Kington. He changed his previous lorry a Morris FE for this new Leyland in 1960,hauling mainly animal feeds from Avonmouth,Cardiff and Barry Docks for Kington and Hereford feed firm Passey Nott & Co Ltd.
Pictures courtesy of Derek and son Shaun.

Derek pictured centre with his two brothers, with what looks like a load of grain bound for the docks.

Derek Layton replaced his Leyland with a new Albion Riever six wheeler in 1967.I haven’t got a picture of that yet, then he replaced the Albion with this Mercedes in 1974.
