Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

Another pic of the big machine.

A nearside look at the Dooson 700.

Graham’s big Scania with the machine onboard.

Not sure where Doosan are from, probably Korea? Could be a descendant of Daewoo. Dave do you remember the Halla plant factory in Wales? It wasn’t open long, their stuff was out of date before it left the works.

Dooson.
What began over one hundred years ago as a single storefront in Korea is today an industrial giant with 39,000 employees.
Not sure about Halla Nathan.Graham would know more about them.
Cheers Dave.

Another ERF hiding behind the bushes.

I wonder is this wagon and drag long enough for Harry Gill ?

A camper showman style.

hello dave/nathan,
halla came to merthyr tydfil in the 90s,they obtained huge investment grants from the eu and other parties and more or less done a moonlight flit a couple of years later, the factory is now home to linde lift trucks, another white elephant was the lg plant at newport, huge grants were secured and all for nothing.
graham.

Hi Graham,
I think to many firms have wasted EU money on failed projects or scams.I think they should do more checks on where this money is going. The Welsh Development Board are the same, they have been building units and enterprise parks trying to entice firms into Mid Wales without doing their homework. There isn’t a good road link into Mid Wales from the motorway network. These firms aren’t going to invest here. Its a sheer waste of public money. :smiling_imp:
Soapbox now parked up.
Cheers Dave.

A bit of reflection on this pic off my dashboard.Showmans mobile home.

Another view of the showman’s temporary Hereford homes.

When I worked for Sheehans’ late '90s, Halla pestered several plant firms to try their machines. Sheehams bought 2 of their “rubber ducks” which lasted several years. I tried a Halla excavator (HE220) and it looked like it’d been made from leftover parts. The cab looked like an old Daewoo, the levers off an old Priestman Mustang and the rest from Hymac.

By the looks of these last two shots Dave there is still a good living to be had as a Showman !! Have their motors and trailers got to be tested now ? and that is the reason for the improvement. We used to service a couple of Scotts of Rhyl 8 wheelers when they were in Milnthorpe twice a year in the 70’s and all they wanted us to do was change the oil, grease round and put the odd secondhand tyre on otherwise they were right bags of ■■■■■ but still crept round pulling a couple of trailers and living vans! Always paid in bags of 10p’s,no bill,no vat !!! Cheers Dennis.
