I was doing some local work, for a local firm. Pulling a 14”6 curtainsider, I had set the in cab indicator accordingly and was doing a drop near to my house. They do say you get complacement with familiarity, I went straight under a 14”6 bridge about 400 yards from the end of my street, never even give the bridge a thought until I had gone under it, I know there is a bit of tolerance, but I wouldn’t have risked it if I had thought on. I would never have lived it down. I’m so used to going under it in my car/van that I am almost blind to it.
On a similar note there is a speed camera near the bridge, which has caught the missus out twice in 7 years ops

Ok, …I don’t know how long you’ve been in the job mate, but after a while you notice bridges and bridge heights (or should) whilst driving your car…and certainly EVERY time you come up against one in a truck, even unit only.
You were lucky this time, put it down to experience and remember next time, if you see a bridge always check the height, those who don’t WILL eventually hit a one…fact.
More evidence of the theory you didn’t forget about the height of the bridge you saw it and you knew it was there. You actually forgot all about the height of and even about the vehicle, that you were driving. The height measurement being out of sight out of mind unlike length and width.

Also instinctively still wincing and thinking what if when you go under a bridge that you absolutely know clears the truck by a mile.
So what do they do let’s make trucks drive as much as a car as possible thereby lulling truck drivers into car driver mode that’ll fix everything.
