well as of today i am back looking for a new job had a word with boss about maybe giving me more wages and he said that for the job i do and the hours i do i get paid enough so i told him that if you think that take home pay for class 1 work should only be 320 take home i dont think so as i have been doing over 56 hrs a week and dont get paid for overtime so he said i think we should part company oh and also reminded him about the state of the trucks and the repairs that needed doing to them his answer was i can only get the faults done when they are serious //////ie faults air leaks on trailer. broken mirrors doors that dont lock ,sun roof that dont open and that is only on just the artic ,not to mention the faults on the 17 toners that i also had to drive so if any one lookin for class 1 driver uk and european experiance let me know so back to job centre on monday or agencys
You seemed to be quite happy driving these vehicles until your boss said you should part company,
then you start moaning about the defects on them. Don’t you think that’s a bit late in the day ?
You should be aware it’s illegal to take a vehicle with known defects on to the highway.
Your comment about the sunroof caused me much merriment.

Well as with all bosses they give the usall response i will get them fixed also told him about defects and that it was illegal to take it out on the road so that is why we said we should depart company so i think a phone call to vossa might apply his response was se if i care and the defects were only minor and i told him about the defects from day one

Pity it didn’t work out, hope you find something decent soon.
Yeah I would say a vehicle with a non working sunroof and doors that don’t lock are a danger to all and everyone. Get on to VOSA right away.
Seems to me the point was you were happy enough to drive those vehicles, happy enough to be wanting more money for driving those vehicles.

please explain what you mean or would you keep driving those motors even after you complain or tell me what you would have done
Good job you jogged my memory , must remember to jack my job in Monday because my sunroof doesn’t open and it has a few air leeks , mind my motor is coming up for 8 years old and hopefully i’m a bit more savy than you realising that an old motor is’nt going to be perfect and in this climate £320 is putting more on the plate to eat than ■■■■ all will

please note the lorrys i had to drive were a 51 plate doors dont lock /t reg windows dont open /r reg only the rust holding it togeather and as for money when you do 56hrs one week and 59 second week with no overtime i think i was within my rights to ask for more money and as to the defects what happens when vossa give you a tug so you tell them your boss says he will get them fixed eventully what happens then
So if he’d given you the payrise you’d still have shopped him about the defects?

only if he did not get the defects done how many time do i have to tell him about them

Three hours more and no overtime! Call the police!! Seriously lad. What planet are you on? Your Boss is probably working his ■■■ off trying to keep the firm on the go while the rates are being cut to f-all and you are yapping about three hours and a cracked mirror. If you had an perspective on reality you would keep working and be glad that you have a wage coming in and do all that you can to keep that wage coming in. Sometimes that does mean personal sacrifices.
My wage has dropped nearly a Hundred quid a week in just over a year. I doing exactly the same amount of work but not getting the same rate. I don’t like it one bit but I still have a job and thats more that a lot of people can say at this moment in time.
IF you did get a tug by the VOSA and they found a defect they would give your boss a notice that it had to be fixed within 14 days I believe. If it was serious then the vehicle would get a prohibition.
A door not locking , a window not opening , I don’t think VOSA will lose to much sleep do you…
Those could have probably been fixed himself on a 45 with nothing more than a screwdriver. Could have been something simple like a fuse blown.
Hopefully his boss will get someone in who realises the true extent of the dire situation that we are all in and shows a bit of loyalty… not running crying to VOSA because he didn’t get his way.
you check the sunroof as part of your daily checks? now thats dedication.
TWINFLAGS:

I worked for someone like that once. After getting completely fed up of it, I pulled into the first weighbridge I came across with wheeltappers in and got them to put a GV9 on it. Maybe you should feel the need to pull into one of those. If you have a quiet word with them and maybe point out a few faults, they’ll duly oblige.

THAT IS CLASSED AS OTHER WORK AND IS BREAKING THE LAW In addition to that, as a mechanic, I’d be expected to earn at least £10/hr where I live so WTF would I fix someone’s wagon for HGV1 rates?

Sorry but I disagree. Why? Because in the good times, you can bet your bottom dollar that the drivers didn’t reap any of the benefits.
Companies are quick to drop wages, claiming times are tight, but slow to put them up when they reckon they’re doing well. To support my argument, I cite Geopost in 2003 who, despite setting increasing records on daily parcel numbers, spent so long arguing over a paltry wage rise that drivers ended up getting months in backdated wage rises.
Good point Conor.
I’ll go in to my Boss on monday and tell him that I want the same money that I was working for a year ago AND I want EVERYTHING on my lorry working as new.
That’s not to say that my boss is competing with a number of other small haulage firms in the area and money is genuinely tight as everyone is undercutting everyone else for work. But thats besides the point. Thats not my problem. I am entitled to my full wage and everything working on my lorry just as it did when it left the factory. How the hell am I supposed to work with a broken cupholder? FFS! Just not on!
How silly of me.
And I must go and hand myself in to the VOSA and confess that I have changed bulbs and fuses when on a 45 break. I am a criminal and must be punished! Shame on me.

BREAKER,if you want to work more hours for less money then feel free, don’t have a dig at someone for sticking up for their right to be paid for what they do.If the truck has defects then they should be fixed ( by someone who is qualified) Not by a guy that is paid to drive, yes you are breaking the law by working whilst your on your 45 break and if vosa or the boys in blue do catch you i’d love to hear your explanation and see if they accept it.
MR perfect is quick to jump on anyone’s back, mr perfect which you ain’t.
Never said I was perfect.
My point was I was prepared to work for a reduced wage and the odd defect if it meant that it kept me in a job and kept my wages coming in every week.
Twin Flags wasn’t prepared to do this and now he has no job and no money coming in. I know what situation I would rather be in. I’m not going to say that he was right to do what he done as he has principles. Principles don’t pay the bills and there are not many jobs on offer at present or for the foreseeable future.
I wish him luck.
Oh remind me never to lift a duster to wipe the dashboard when I’m on break. That is breaking the law and I’ll go to jail!
Guess what. I have never used a mode switch on my tacho EVER! Just leave it on break all the time. Been thru countless VOSA and police stops and nothing ever said about it. Even when all my charts were seized and sent for analysis…

ill 2nd this, he had a job which is good for him and yes the money ■■■■■ but its either 320 quid or £0, what would rather have?
id give anything right now to get away from the agency no matter how dire the pay is.
