M1 North Jc 22, loads of City of London police cars X5’s, 5 series BMW’s, then 2 Rigid DAF’s come tear arsing by doing about 80 (don’t worry not on Paddy plates) one in lane 3 t’other in lane 2.
I’d seen them parked in Leicester Forest East and the coppers were armed to the teath, what on earth could be carried in 2 57 plate, clapped out DAF’s, that needs so much protection?
They used to have huge escorts when transporting new banknotes etc. After the great train robbery they have taken security of cash a bit more seriously.
The BofE printing works used to be at Debden next to j5 M11 but it might have moved.
Think they’re money transfer convoys from the Bank of England in London going to Leeds if I’m not mistaken. They do it very regular. Theres stuff been posted on here about them in the past
merc0447:
Surely you would use armoured vehicles for high value money transfers and not clapped out dafs like newlad describes
The old blue motors that would come into Bristol were new at the time so as time goes on they look old ( they would be ) and knackered ( well they weren’t high mileage users) … if the truck cracks on and is still legal why spend ££££££ on having it updated. its not just the armour for the trucks its the security devices incorporated into it that costs …
used to see them tearing round north circular years ago before M25 was built. The police had tasty looking rover SD1s with minilite alloy wheels. I was in the army then driving Sherpa vans (defence couriers with classified diplomatic mail on board), sometimes the police would let us tag on the back, then it was no stop through red lights/ roundabouts etc.
Few years ago, police were bringing Kenneth Noy from Wake field to Leeds crown court. The number of police armed to the teeth was scary, always a slightly different route, but armed to the teeth.
There was also some helicopter gun ships with nuclear armed warheads too.
nick2008:
were the trucks painted Blue with tail lifts
Yes mate they were.
Saw what looked like the drivers being escorted to and from the garage in Leicester Forest East, very strange.
The trucks didn’t look like they were armoured (like the post office ones) but the went like stink!
Yep that’s the money vans also known t transport bullion . un restricted Armoured go like you stole it as they get in to town they use to get the paraffin budgie up to watch for any potential threats
I think the cabs are definitely armoured not sure about the bodies. I doubt if the armed escorts would waste much time asking questions in the event of an attempted ambush.
Dan Punchard:
They’re still using that seddon Atki 8 wheeler 301 or 311 .
The one you’re thinking about Dan is the special nuclear materials truck - used to take warhead plutonium into aldermaston and burghfield from ■■? Saw it coming round the north of the m25 once or twice. It’s a dark blue 311 with an armoured cab, split screen and an aircon unit on the roof - I used to think it was bullion until I saw it on the internet. I think they’ve merged with the warhead convoys now in the khaki armoured 8-wheel actros units with triaxle trailers. Google it and there’s lots of info, probly get MI5 surveilance on you for a while though
Can’t remember if it was B,F,or G reg which is why I can’t remember what model ,but I’ve seen it moving a lot ,L10 290 ? Or a proper engine ? Auto box ?
