Weight restricted roads

ok stupid question that i think i know the answer to but anyway…

weight limits, is the weight limit the weight your truck is plated to or the weight you are (ie unladen) at that very moment?

Generally it is the weight your truck is plated to, but there are occasional weight limits that may state, 10tonnes Maximum weight, in which case you could take an empty 6 wheeler on that bit of road

ty that’s what i thought.

There’s 2 different signs. The one with a picture of a truck is “environmental” ie we dont want you to bring your nasty, smelly lorry down our road, thankyou. The one that is just a weight shown is “structural” ie the bridge is weak.

Hope that helps, Pete

We have one that says do not bring your heavy smelly vehicle into our local village because the bridge will collapse again :stuck_out_tongue:

There are a few variations on the signs, this one is quite sensible but rare.

This one is more stern, like your Mother.

This one says what it means.

This one is more forgiving, it may say “except for loading or unloading”, it means the same thing.
