For my sins I did it once in London was about 1 mile from some site was trying to access.
Saw 7.5 except for access I stoped looked couldt see a better way road was plenty big enough.
Week later got an £80 summons in the post with a nice photo.
I rang tried explain had delivey there wasn’t familiar with the roads. But they didn’t care

Fine can be up to £1000 but depends on the area how “proactive” they are. No points.
Some examples here from Oxfordshire, which sounds to be a fairly nimby orientated place

In addition to this new investigative work, a number of drivers were prosecuted based upon earlier investigation work, with their cases in the Magistrates Court between January and April 2017.

January

Two drivers were convicted of breaching weight restrictions at Charlbury and Newbridge. One driver received an absolute discharge and the other was fined £300.

The council was awarded costs against all the convicted drivers to reflect some of the work involved in dealing with each breach. A victim surcharge of 10% of the fine was also imposed upon each driver.

I don’t know technical term for it.
Was a letter from some London council
With a picture and letter . Same thing as a speeding ticket pay with in 14 days.or price doubles
Prob was a fixed penalty notice was about 18 months ago had a sleep since then lol

I wouldn’t have thought a fine or points would be enforceable unless the evidence (the photo) was taken by an official source. Wouldn’t look good very in court when asked where the picture came from and they said well it’s just what some random member of the public sent in. Could have been photoshopped or anything.

This person is probably sending them to the council and if the council deem it necessary if the problem is persistent then they will look at putting there own cameras/police patrols in place to get official evidence and fine drivers themselves.

I wouldn’t worry.

It was in Bushey off m25 down a1 right at roundabout end of that road went left goes past some very nice houses not a bad road prob just because its an expensive area

Its normally a council or trading standards website that allows you to upload your own pictures, the same type as you report potholes and broken street light lights to, name, date, place, time etc.

To be fair all those Oxfordshire weight limits are clearly signed. The Church Enstone one even has a sign to divert lgv drivers away from the weight limit. Newbridge is an 18t mgw weak bridge (which Farmer Giles is allowed to ignore it seems) and that has warning signs several miles before it with places to turn.
Watlington is just a crap place to drive a lorry through.
Stanton Harcourt you have to be Stevie Wonder not to notice the signs pointing you towards the Industrial Estate.

Well further to this company has now been contacted by plod asking if there was a reason for being there told tm I ■■■■■■ up he’s e mailed them explaining what’s the likely outcome any different as it has came from plod even thow it’s been a while now since it happened

Its a weight limit.
Perhaps you misinterpreted the sign.
