Weekly rest

If you use all three 9hr reduce rests in the first week, and work Sat making the weekly rest reduced also, can you still do a further three reduced rests in the second week? The way I understand it, you can only reduce daily rest between two full weekly rest periods ie; 45hrs, any thoughts on this would be appreciated ta…

It says you can reduce daily rest to nine no more than three times between weekly rest.
So yes you can go on to reduce a further three daily rests after a reduced weekly rest.

You’re right that you can have no more than 3 reduced daily rest periods between any two weekly rest periods.

What you’ve misunderstood is that the definition of a “weekly rest period” includes a “regular weekly rest period” and a “reduced weekly rest period”.

So you can have up-to 3 reduced daily rest periods: between any two regular weekly rest periods, or, between a regular weekly rest period and a reduced weekly rest period (or vice versa), or even, between 2 reduced weekly rest periods as long as the other weekly rest requirement is observed.

Article 4 - (EC) 561/2006

‘weekly rest period’ means the weekly period during
which a driver may freely dispose of his time and covers
a ‘regular weekly rest period’ and a ‘reduced weekly rest
period’:

Article 8 - (EC) 561/2006

A driver may have at most three reduced daily rest
periods between any two weekly rest periods.

Once you have taken a weekly rest period, doesn’t matter if it is reduced or full, you have another 3 reduced daily rest periods available. Doesn’t matter when you take that weekly rest period, same thing applies. So you could reduce your daily rest Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, take a reduced weekly rest period and then reduce your daily rest Friday, Saturday and Sunday. That’s 6 reduced daily rest periods in one week and legal.

Thanks for the replies.

This is some good information to know.
