Weekly Rest

Hi everybody. I’m still a relative “newbie” compared to some people on here (held licence for 2 years and been driving for a job for 1 year) and I am after some clarification on the Weekly Rest rules.

The problem I have is that I have just started a new job where I may be required to work on Saturday or Sunday whereas previously I have only been required to work Mon-Fri. I knew I was ok with Weekly Rest Period at my previous job as I finished on Friday and wasn’t in again until Monday but now that I have possible weekend work as well I am not quite sure how the Weekly Rest rules work.

If I worked on Saturday, thus reducing my Weekly Rest, when would I need to compensate for the reduction? Also, if I were to work Mon-Fri and have Saturday off and then work on the Sunday how does the Weekly Rest rule work and how would it effect my hours for the following week? All these different rules are confusing the hell out of me.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I don’t really wanna get a tug from our “friends” at VOSA and get fined.

I will assume you have read …
eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/Lex … 013:EN:PDF
and
businesslink.gov.uk/Transpor … 1111_3.pdf
but are still a little confused

Payback for a reduced weekly rest must be paid back in full, in one go, before sunday midnight of week 4 if the reduced was done in week 1
Payback can be added to a daily or weekly rest after the rest is taken

The maximum hours allowed between weekly rests is 144 hours or 6 x 24 hours (=144) so whether you start on a sunday, monday or any other day it makes no difference to that rule

How much payback do you think will be needed if you do a saturday and restart on a monday or finish friday and start sunday ?
