Weekly rest

A question on irishrigs, no one seems to know the answer,

Can Weekly Rest it be taken on a ferry /ship? .

If you mean Irish hauliers then they can take their weekly rest while they are driving!

If you have access to a bunk or couchette then yes it can count as a rest period. By being a period of 24 or 45hrs it automatically counts as a weekly rest period.

And with the announcement of DRIVER-LESS TRUCKS (And yes this thread is old ,like me)

No doubt this will end being an unintended consequence then when those little green leprechauns tell their jockeys to rest whilst the trucks are being driven by the computer systems, (driver less trucks and the Vostapo hasn’t said F*K or Buger) in the public domain at least , regarding their concerns about possible breaches in drivers hours regs that this woeful idea may bring   tossers who think we can be replaced by a silicon chip imported from china deserve to find themselves on the dole ques, can you envisage the dsva stopping one of these convoys ? just where are they going to go?, maybe something that those pricks in government who think , or maybe don’t think at all, (part of the problem with the uk today) forgot to even consider, would not suprise me at all, common sense they haven’t even heard of it
I can see it now all those lorries that are automatically following the lead vehicle , all will have curtains drawn/closed and driver in the bunk or cracking open a cold one

EU regs state that rest cannot be taken in a moving vehicle

Interesting point though … does a driverless truck on the move with a driver in it mean it is or is not driving time for the regs

Wouldn’t matter Rog.
They say a driver must be in attendance so it can’t be rest or POA as when the wheels are turning the tacho will be recording drive

With current legislation I would suggest it would still be driving in the same way cruise control is still driving. If the recording equipment records driving - it’s driving.

Of course a change in legislation would make this potentially very different.

This question has been posted twice.

But the argument would be is this, if truck on auto pilot then how can the human driver be regarded as driving , It would also pose interesting arguments in the event of a RTC , And would result in some drivers refusing to put their driver cards in the tacho, unless they had manual control of said vehicle, this just sit in the drivers seat just in case wouldn’t work out long term
