Hi all. I have a question regarding weekly rest periods…specifically ‘shortened’ ones.
Now,over the past week,I have been working some odd shift times and I’m not over sure where I am with rest periods or what would constitute legal splits etc.
So…I have just finished a run of 4 night shifts, with the last one finishing sunday morning at 08.30 hrs. I am starting again tonight at 21.00 hrs,so I estimate that gives me a 36 hr ‘shortened’ weekly rest period…I know that I have to make up the shortfall by the end of the 3rd week, but does the left over bit (of 9 hrs) have to be added to another weekly period,or can it be attached to any rest period ■■ Further, does the 9 hrs have to be taken in one lump ■■ I want to get it all square asap,so that I know where I am with it…
I’ve been away from driving for about 18 months,so I’m a bit fuzzy with this. So you guys…any help on this one, please ■■

By my reckoning you will have 8.5 hours to pay back which as you rightly say should be paid back by the end of the third week following the week in which the reduced weekly rest was taken.
The compensation can be added en block to any rest period of at least nine hours, so the answer to your question is that the 8.5 hours must be taken in one block and can be added to a reduced daily rest period or a daily rest period or a weekly rest period.
Aah thank you Tachgraph…that sorts that out. . I have always tried to avoid the reduced weekly rest thing, but this week,I have been working for 2 different agencies,so I’ve had to juggle them around as best I could.
Anyhow, now I know where I am…I ‘owe’ 8.5 hours,to be added to another rest period somewhere. I’ll have to keep the ‘agencies’ under control a bit more,eh ■■
Thanks again !
You’re welcome
