Weekly Rest in practice

Hi guys,

Looking at getting into driving but would like to understand the landscape…

Say you’re waiting to unload for three hours, is this considered a rest as part of split daily rest, and are employers then saying; as it was rest… it’s therefore unpaid…?

You see, I’m asking if driving for a living is a proper p*ss take, or not.

Thanks.

Being paid or not depends on employment contract and has nothing to do with the regs

I assume you mean daily rest and not weekly rest?

I can’t speak for anyone else but if I did a job for a company and was not paid for three hours I was waiting to load/unload not only would there be one hell of an argument but it would certainly be the last time I worked for that company.

If you’re waiting to load/unload you’re at work regardless of what mode the tachograph is on and I’m pretty sure you’ll find nearly all, hopefully all, drivers would expect to be paid, and indeed be paid.

I’m struggling to believe that any driver would sign a contract that says they won’t get paid for time waiting to load/unload

I would only EVER use the split rest for my own benefit.

Thanks for the replies, one and all.

Yeah, title of the thread is a bit off!
