So, we have a pour over BH.

Have been given off today and Tuesday so we have a reduced rest period of 24 hrs and then won’t go more than 6x24hrs before the weekend following the BH.

A clever arse in shipping is now asking whether we actually need the Tuesday off too.

I’m not starting till 7am Saturday. So my understanding is that I’ll need a rest period by 7am next Fri if I don’t have Tue off. The guys starting 7pm Friday night will need a rest by 7pm Thur.

Now, what’s confusing me is the situation whereby the pour is completed by 7am Sunday morning, giving a further 24hr rest period by 7am Monday.

I know that weekly rest can’t be split so we’ll still need the full 45 the following weekend. What’s confusing me is when the 6x24hr period starts counting from. Is it the end of the rest period before starting the weekend shifts or the end of the 24hrs starting 7am Sunday?

For now I’m playing it safe and assuming it’s the former.

A new set of six 24 hour periods starts immediately after a weekly rest period (regular or reduced).

If you start work at 07:00 Saturday after a weekly rest period you will need to start a new weekly rest period no later than 07:00 the following Friday.

However if you have another reduced weekly rest period (24 hours) between 07:00 Sunday and 07:00 Monday then a new set of six 24 hour periods begins at 07:00 Monday, so you would need to start a weekly rest period no later than 07:00 the following Sunday.

A completed weekly rest period always resets the six periods of 24 hours.
