why oh why would anyone want to sleep where they work ? why would anyone not want to come home after 10 hrs at work and have a shower and unwind ? why why why why why ?
Money is a lot better, the work is more just driving, its just a lot more relaxing and far less tiring. Its better in all aspects bar the fact there is no home life during the week.
Rowley010:
Seems to be 60-70 hours average then for a normal tramping week.
What time do drivers generally start on a Monday and get back in a Friday?
Depends where the first drop is with us. No time slot to be tipped and only a couple of hours away and its usually between 6 and 7.
Long haul first drop and its between 4 and 5 or leaving on the Sunday.
I like tramping couldn’t do anything else get mega annoyed going back to the yard mid week.
I usually earn average £550 600 unless I have a bad week.
Get paid 60 to 70 hours a week and I have very rarely done 48hrs proper work.
Get one phone call at 18.00hrs if am lucky. Not hassle or stress.
Get a time to be some where as long as I’m there I can do what I want in between bliss.

I’m sure even trampers would like a 10 hour day on 700 quid a week pre tax earnings but these jobs aren’t a plenty
The reality of the job is 12-15 hours daily, for me 30-40 mins each way on top and a lot of the time it’s in eat bed and that’s it. I only stay at home because my daughter was moaning at never seeing me and even 5 mins with her before bed is priceless to me while she’s young. I had a much better ‘life’ bring away all week, I can’t go to the pub or watch football midweek in my current job. I never saw sleeping in the truck as sleeping at work either, the work phone went off once tacho was out only people to ring my own phone was drivers.
I’m tired most of the time now so I’ve put in for 4 on 4 off, money will drop but might get a bit more quality time to enjoy at home.
I font understand the lads that are determined to get home every day and start throwing a paddy if/when it looks like they won’t get back because of an RTA.
There was a time tramping didnt suit me, young kids and wife needing help. Then the job got long hours so going home to see the wife for an hour by the time I was sorted for the next day wasnt really any quality time at all.
Even now if im back in me home yard I may stay with the truck even if 11 hours off are available. Madness I know.
Suppose its all down to family demands but there comes a time in every relationship when you just get on each others nerves on a working week and when tramping you realise time spent away from each other does indeed make the heart grow fonder.
Wifey also becomes more self sufficient with minor home and car issues so they feel better, for some it just works.
Massive downside is not being at home if thers a big problem but as my kids have grown up and the buggers just wont leave home theres always someone around to help.
63 paid hours last week, self employed will pick up about 730.On containers, left alone and can easily get the hours in sat in the docks
About 55 per week early start Monday but usually parked up around 5-6 as can only deliver shop hrs ie 9-5 its not irrregular to park up a 1630 and not start till 9-10 the next morning doing furniture to small shops
Mon - Fri 70 hrs and tell them to shove there weekend work
60 h9ur duty limit .if you break this health and safety and work for peanuts .there’s plenty will run u into the ground
Obviously driving is in the blood but I wouldn’t be working 60/70/80hrs for £550-750/wk. I ‘work to live’ but many seem to ‘live to work’. For those that do those hours…would you come off tramping if you could get on a simple night trunk for 30k+?

I would and I plan to do just that or go and get my bus licence. Currently on euro work doing 2 weeks out and 3 days at home with mostly max hours min breaks but money wouldn’t pay you never mind doing two weeks work for one weeks pay and it is quite stressful, you’re under pressure to get to places while at the same time trying to stay legal. So yeah a straight forward night truck with set hours for a decent wage sounds good to me, this crack of living in the lorry all the time isn’t worth it.
