Weekended in Arizona and other stuff from recently

I am currently at a truckstop in Arizona waiting for word of a reload back to Canada. I could have parked at a motel but to be honest there is everything here that i want so i haven’t bothered. The weather is very hot but the buildings are airconditioned and my truck has an auxillary power unit fitted so the cab/sleeper aircon can be operated without the engine running. Hopefully i will be on my way by monday morning.
There is a great truckwash here so i have had my truck and trailer washed and some of the aluminium polished which has helped pass some time. The truckwash is part of the Blue Beacon chain and the guys who work there are very proffesional and really take pride in doing a good job.

The trip down here was 3250 kms and took three days. I started near home in Manitoba, Canada where i loaded then i crossed into the US at Pembina, North Dakota then ran south through South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas where i started running south West across the Oklahoma panhandle, clipped the NW corner of Texas and ran right across New Mexico and west on the Intertstate 10 into Arizona. The delivery point was in Nogales which is the biggest Mexico port of entry in Arizona and is inside the commercial zone so trucks from all over the US, Mexico and in my case Canada mingle together.

At this time of the year there is a lot of produce coming out of California so i have done a few trips across to the west coast recently. The scenery is very spectacular and allthough California has a lot of regulations compared to the rest of the US and the enforcement is strict i always enjoy trips there. If i am delivering to the South such as San Diego i cross into the US in North Dakota and run west into Montana then South through Idaho and Nevada. It takes me three and a half days to get there and is 3600kms. It makes a good contrast to see the beautifull Rockies as well as the deserts of Nevada in the same journey.

Last time i did this trip it was saturday afternoon as i was passing through Las Vegas so i parked up at a truckstop for the night and after my shower and tea got a taxi to the famous strip.

A lot of the produce in California comes from around the Los Angeles area. Allthough LA is a huge sprawling urban area it is surrounded by rich fertile valleys where a lot of citrus fruit is grown. Usually a produce load involves collecting from several farms or produce merchants out in the middle of nowhere but often they are located around the city.

Sometimes from Southern California i run east into across the Mohave desert and into Arizona and load from the area i am in now. There is some spectacular scenery here but it is very hostile and dry.

Just a dry load, Dieseldog, to get me down there more than anything for the good load that unfortunately dissapeared.

It looks a bit like the mountain pass near Halloran srings on the I 15 but the color of the rock should have given it away, Pat.
It is actually when you have just climbed through Echo cliffs on the US 89 in Arizona.

Wire,
Did you pick up any produce in Yuma?
Great memories of the town.

Pat Hasler : I have P.M.'d and E. Mailed you.

I travelled a bit on 89 … from I-40 south to prescott only, but there is a stretch north of Prescott through some Indian reservation land that looks just like that … had to spend the whole weekend in the Holiday inn just down the road.

Great Snaps! Some of the snaps have the big P/B logo on the front of the truck & on others its gone. Did someone nick it ?

Those road signs look very low! What are the height limits over there?

10 out of 10 for observation there! The logo is on a bug screen that clips onto the front of the grill and saves the intercooler rad from getting blocked up in summer. The pictures without it were taken on an earlier trip before i had got round to clipping it on. Incidently, the same clips hold the winter jacket in place in winter.

The height limit is 13’ 6" every where here and anything higher is considered over dimentional and would require a permit to travel.

Nice wheels !
