Chas Malthouse:
Have been truck driving since 1978 and have been just about everywhere in the UK. I am not a caravanner. Obviously there will be no replies from people who do not do their daily checks. Have made so much money from the job I now only need to work part time. Yes including some weekends. Just trying to get some of you guys thinking? why trucking? You may be better off in another industry.
Oh, you’ve got me thinking alright Chaslad !! Let me get this straight, you’ve been a truckdriver for about 30 years and have done ok out of it and you work weekends. You’re now asking us why we should work weekends and if we may be better off in another industry? Can you guess what i’m thinking?!!!

Congratulations on your 1000th post Mike, it was a good one!
Well, in addition to all of the above, I live and worked in France where partial weekend bans are the norm. And let me tell you Chas. they are a pain in the bum. If you have to be somewhere hundreds of miles away first thing on Monday morning the last thing you want to be doing is driving from 10pm Sunday after living a normal night and day existence for the rest of the weekend.
Think about it. Sleep Friday night, up all day Saturday, sleep Saturday night, up all day Sunday, up all Sunday night .
This is why, now retired, I won’t drive my car (with or without caravan) between midnight Sunday and midday Monday. Too dangerous with all those sleepy drivers about.

I might go for it if cars are banned during the week along with all the modes of transport driven or riden my Mr and Mrs Vague and their son Pondlife Junior.
I have a lot of concern and worry about the future regards road transport. I feel I am doing my bit and have installed a railhead at the local news-agent, last years newspaper is due to arrive later this month, looking forward to that. I have also started feasibility studies into transport by the old and may I say under used cannel system. I have such a cannel at the bottom of our road, okay the ducks aren’t happy and think I am quakers. Early days yet on that, had a few drawbacks, but I am hopeful of a good result on that, just need to find some Hi Vis Waterwings.
Andy
PS: Can anyone help me get me Volvo out of the cannel
Chas Malthouse:
I have thought about this for a long while and I can not think of one good reason why any trucks should be on the road at the weekend. How about a ban from midnight Friday to midnight Sunday.
A drive past any of the big six supermarket carparks will show you why it won’t work.
A drive past any petrol station will show you why it won’t work.
A drive past any McDonalds will show you why it won’t work.
And what are you going to do about milk? Cows can’t stop producing milk and it needs to be processed quickly.
And you won’t want any post on Monday or any newspapers or any bread…
Chas Malthouse:
How many of you out there who drive the same truck every day can honestly say that you made sure all your lights were working and the lenses were clean when you started your last shift?
Me. Not only that, I check them every trailer change. Our company, like most, have a daily check sheet the driver has to complete.
As a ■■■■■■ car driver, when was the last time you checked your tyre pressures? Do you even know where the dipstick is?

You’d be better off sodding back to the Honest John forums.

Have you by any chance been smoking something imported from Holland?
It’s great to introduce subjects into the forums, but at least let us into your thinking behind such posts. Especially before going off on an extreme tangent and throwing a completely different question at us.
After all most of us are blokes who can only concentrate on one thing at a time, and that is only if it is explained to us properly. If you want us to multi task may I ask that you target your questions to the ladies on this forum
Nutter alert !
god knows how many time sthis idea has been banded about , but in our 24 hour lifestye its just not parctical, as mentioned before who will deliver your daily paper/milk/bread ?do you want 1 or 2 day old food ?
Is it me or does anyone else get the impression that Green is the new word for Communist.? They made a zip-up of being red so now they have this cunning plan of going green.

from what ive seen on a saturday it seems like its 99% foreign trucks anyway other than ,tescos, asda and there most likely driven by poles so i think the bans pretty much in place already .
