We have 2016. Right?

Well, In 1970 you had to change Bulbs anywhere on the Lorry once a Month,or so.
But today i nearly do it on a Daily basis. Wotever the Reason, but i havent had that many broken Bulbs the last 35 Years as i had the last 35 weeks.
So please explain me that.

But they are cheap today

NEWSFLASH
cheap bulbs don’t last, they never have and they never will.

My boss of the time bought huge boxes of the things from the rep that called around 1980, just as well he bought thousands because a 2 hour empty run from Widnes across to the Notts coalfields (remember them?) if the lights were on would see on average 6 of the 8 side light bulbs in a standard steel sprung tipper trailer blown, similar failure rate of the same rubbish make stop light bulbs, the Lucas bulbs we used before lasted ages even on the worse roads.
Probably two out of 10 would fizzle out as you put the things in, complete and utter rubbish.

We still use Lucas bulbs where i work now and they generally last as well as OE, my MAN is three years old, the first batch of 6 tail light bulbs all failed at around 18 months old, and i’m replacing those at the moment.
Interestingly only one headlight bulb in that time, where the DAF before that used to get through one a week.

Mind you i’d rather proper bulbs than these poncy led’s, the last side marker on the unit that failed the fitter had to take the rear wing off to fit the thing due to tracing the wiring right back, i could have fitted 20 5w bulbs in the time it took him what with the bolts being rusted etc.

I buy good makes in small bulk packs of ten or so for my own cars too, usually Osram or Lucas.

If you drive Scania that switch off light before trailer changes and not start engine with light on.If you do this -you save plenty of bulb.

Are you sure that you have the wattage right.?

Never liked the idea of LEDs. Aren’t they all done using control units and things? At least with a bulb you know where you stand. Just another over complication just like these digital oil gauges on the newer trucks!!

i use 26v bulbs last longer as there not loaded to the max, one of my trailers is full LED and hasnt had a light in 2yrs :sunglasses:

Went to Oakthorpe and left Headlight Low-Beam blow out. In Workshop when back and down to Oakthorpe again. That Time right Headlight Low Beam blow out :grimacing:
