The Mrs and myself went for a meal and some drinks with friends tonight who are both mobile paramedics, they both had rage and fury for cars and believe it or not cyclists but wagon drivers came out tops.
The upshot was cars panic or get blinkered and cyclists stop and donât get on the kerb causing cars to be stuck out in the road blocking the passage of the emergency vehicle.
Wagons always seem to see them behind and anticipate a roll when there is oncoming traffic that will not (for some reason) stop, so the wagon keeps going until the oncoming traffic stops for the emergency vehicle to safely pass (if you see what I mean, hard to explain without hands flailing about) .
My comment was that we as HGV drivers are more likely using mirrors more and anticipate the road and other road users more as part of our working day.
Best bit was I never started that train of conversationâŚbut their wedding plans were wearing me down
Nearly upset a taxi driver not long back was driving over a bridge pulled over in front of him ( he was coming opposite way ) until he realised why I had done this & even reversed back a little I had no where else to go
On fri heading back to the yard an ambulance heading down blues & twoâs going I did stop but a taxi didnt see & didnt move this caused him to go round rather than straight
Son in law last year in snow on a country road had an ambulance behind him ( he was in a sprinter ) so did speed up a bit they had radio ahead as a 4x4 police car waiting yep the police did stop & speak to him as he was speeding but did not take action he was in the back of beyond in Durham
its nice when you do get a compliment though,i had a pick up at a warehouse near reading and when i pulled in i thought you have got to be kidding when i saw how tight it was for an artic, employees cars everywhere, anyway i managed with a few shunts to get it on the warehouse door spot on not realising i was being watched by a number of women having a break outside, when i jumped out they all basically said they were very impressed by my driving,i replied it was all in a days work, the only problem afterwards was getting back in the cab,my head would not fit through the door,LOL
