Way above average pay for West Yorks

Very surprised to see this rate in comparison to other local hauliers

Probably caused by the supermarkets in the area increasing pay such as Morrisons who’ve just had a pay rise of 8% (IIRC), or Sainsbury’s who are offering extra shift incentives. I know Sainsbury’s have just taken on a load of drivers on a fixed rota, £13.59ph day rate and home every night

Seems half decent taken at face value but I suspect there may be a catch somewhere along the line. Peckover have always been in the same group as Shipley, Joda, McDowell, Longs, Bannister, when it comes to money. All of them are renowned for paying peanuts and expecting more than a pound of flesh from you.

Bet the £13 includes night out money averaged and wouldn’t be surpised if the 17 quid is weekends overtime rate. Sounds like a very big difference unless you have to work 60+ hours to get it.

At this rate Shipley and Longs will have no staff.

Our firm is looking for drivers, brand new top spec Renault T520 allocated to each driver. When you are off, your truck is laid up as nobody uses your truck. Overtime after 9 hrs is paid at £17 per hour. Night allowance of £35, No back loads, one drop per customer, drive home empty from Scotland or down South. Easy work and well looked after from the company. Average 3 nights out per week. We are struggling to find drivers!!! So there really is a driver shortage as we are even taking on new passes,

Is that you, Ken Quinn?

As I’ve seen some companies near me with a less than friendly attitude to drivers,
Modify there wages at least twice this year.
But still seeing £9.50 an hour.
Those are the ones needing 5 drivers urgently.
Wonder why?

There`s an image doing the rounds which some of you may have seen on social media
showing the new pay rates (from 10th May 2021) for James Wilby Ltd.
however the increased rates are only 59p above NMW which IMO is appalling,
Class 1 drivers: £9.50 for 40hrs
Class 2 drivers: £9.20 for 40hrs
7.5 Ton drivers: £9.00 for 40hrs

Bit far for me to be honest otherwise I’d be asking if you could get me an interview,
Surprised you struggle for drivers in that area paying that money,

And it’s [zb] work as well. A lot of flats, roping and sheeting. No-one is doing that [zb] in the year 2021 except old-timers stuck in the past who love to talk for hours about Eaton Twin Splitters were. They wouldn’t even get drivers to do that crap for £20/hr these days. I see they’re even trying to get mugs via agency as the ads have their postcode on them, but they are only offering £10.50/hr on agency for class 1. More chance of platting fog.

There’s only one Melton I can find mentioned and that’s near Brough. It doesn’t even show on the map.
