that is a brilliant artwork! My interest in trucks as a child started with me rushing home after spotting a tidy scania 1 or 2, an F10 or an F12, or a daf 3300 and trying to recreate them in a drawing!. I love this picture and can appreciate the amount of effort that went into it.
Back on topic I remember the waving hands from old magazines and I have thought about making some for my scale model trucks that I’m building too - along with some ‘allez via calais’ stickers! Cheers, harry.

I can highly recommend Jerry’s work, they look even better full size as I have had a couple of his paintings off him. An Astran and Essex International.

Great stuff.

Should I ebay my deeley boppers yet?

They were called “Winky Wavers”.

The Winky Waver was an English automobile accessory which was a craze in the late 1970s. In this case, “winky” appears to derive from the German “winken” meaning “to wave” rather than the more usual meaning of the word, although possibly a double meaning was intended.

A Winky Waver consisted of a hand shape attached to a fairly stiff but flexible piece of plastic with a suction cup on the end. This could be stuck on the inside of a car window. When the car went over a bump, the hand would move backwards and forwards, giving the impression of waving to someone outside the car. At the time it was common for so-called nodding dogs to be placed on the back shelf of a car but the Winky Waver went a step further and was in its time quite revolutionary.

Winky Wavers were available in a variety of colours with various expressions printed on them. These were intended to be read by anyone whose attention had been attracted by the waving movement. Unlike nodding dogs, Winky Wavers could thus be used to convey messages to passers by or other road users.

I suppose you could put a “saved search” on ebay and see if any turn up.
