we have 21 lorry’s / drivers in our fleet, i know pritty much them all, i see no harm in flashing the lights and giving a wave, if anything it promotes a bit of happiness amoungst the drivers, we all get on well, if we had a fella who never flashed back or waved we would just think he was either a crabit c##t, a big loner or just ignorant,

It was the same when I worked for rank hovis. All the drivers who delivered flour flashed and waved at each other regardless of companyThat still goes on. Because of the way the runs were worked, Matthews drivers tended not to be near each other unless the tanker was nearby so waving to Heygates etc made up for it.
Glad to hear it. Most drivers seem to realise that the cut throat business stuff is nothing to do with us. We were all doing the same job and just happened to have a different name on the truck. Last year when I was pulling deckers to cairnryan we started getting waves from the McBurney drivers so we started doing it back. Same drivers, same roads, same job, different companies. We are all just trying to earn a living and it doesn’t hurt to be friendly to other people doing the same job for someone else

Mcburneys are a good bunch
The McBurney drivers are good lads. They seemed to respect as more when we helped them get past us. We had no reason to hold them up. One guy might be different though and I would to be there when somebody finally does knock him out, especially if its one of their lads
To be fair every company has good and bad guys, mostly decent but you always get the odd ■■■ here and there.
Slightly off topic but When i worked at 3663 we had an induction day and the conversation ended up talking about their rivals Brakes. The person giving the induction was absolutely horrified to hear that we as drivers would dare to speak to Brakes drivers as sometimes we’d be at the same delivery point. Makes no difference to me,driver is a driver whatever the company you work for,the politics are for the office types.
I’ve noticed that if you pass a colleague on the road, then flashing of lights and theatrical waves are acceptable, even if it’s right outside the gate, but if you walk past a fellow driver in the warehouse, it is expected to avoid any eye contact and keep walking, while looking at the floor.
Cosmic , you have hit the nail on the head, and that was the reason for my post.
So called fellow drivers, that don’t have the time of day in the yard for acknowledgement, but throw their toys out of the pram when you ignore their ridiculous light show on the road.
