Washington Services Fisticuffs

Punch up dan seems a right character..turning off fridges..taking keys out and throwing them, im surprised hes not had a few good hidings… we all know fridges can be a nuisance, and YES, ive pulled many, but always had consideration for others, but it doesnt always work the other way..problem with fridge work is unsocial hours for deliveries/collections..markets are a prime example, so many fridges park during the daytime..now with the current climate of the amount of trucks looking for an overnight parking space, add the night run drivers who need a break, then look at how many spaces are actually available, and there comes the problem, drivers have to park wherever they can find a space, someone pulls out, another pulls in..its all about wants and needs..and none of our governments accept the fact we have a problem..they couldnt tell us how many would be arriving, thats without the amount of trucks that would increase, taking spaces that we have managed with over the years..they hark on about migrants taking our housing stock, so they must have known about the extra spaces needed for the extra trucks entering the UK from all over the Eu and beyond..theres another debate there about the stay in brigade ` look at how many imports there are from the EU, then look at how many exports there are to the EU…the majority of EU registered trucks going over the water are leaving empty, so we actually import more than we export…which means…they need us …more than we need them.

Call old fashioned but when I’m out I consider the load and wagon my responsibility and anyone interfering with it will have an angry me to deal with, I’d take it a personal affront and insult and fisticuffs are highly likely to occur.

Hey hey hey hey!
Now calm down, calm down

Your right truck boy I have ,but what dosent kill you make stronger !

One of the few downsides of being a “nighter” is that all the irritations described in the OP could happen to you during the daylight hours whilst the nigher is trying to get a kip (even if at home in bed!) - and no bugger gives a ■■■■.

When I have just pulled a 18:00-09:00 shift, just got home at 10am, in bed by 11, and then come dinner time in the hot summer heat 1pm - some dustcart/delivery van with blowing exhaust, footy yobs (if a saturday pm) or even rows in the house next door. FFS Once you wake up after only 2 hours in bed with an outside temperature of 30+ I can’t get back to bloody sleep again!

Puts paid to going back in after “minimum rest” as well of course… :unamused:

I share your pain brother, I have cockwomble neighbours who don’t work (and yet have more money than me) and have garden parties every time there’s decent weather.

There’s also the fact that a lot of trucks are parked up uninhabited with the curtains closed. Drivers at home or whatever.

Really? You take a wage of about £4 to guard your truck when you’re not driving it?

Good news on the fridge front .I heard on radio 4 prog that a fridge that does not use electric is on the verge of going into production so in will not be long be for trucks have them :stuck_out_tongue:

About 40 odd years ago when I worked for Express Foods Group, (Eden Vale, Ski yogurt) we used to have trailers delivering to our depot that had the fridge unit running on liquefied carbon dioxide. There was a big warning sign on the doors to leave them open for 2 minutes before entering as the oxygen level would be too low due to the carbon dioxide from the fridge. There was a massive tank of the stuff on the front bulkhead where a modern diesel powered unit is now.

Punchy Dan:
wouldn’t be the first time I’ve turned a fridge off or pulled another drivers keys out and thrown them

Sorry we were mistaken - didn’t realise you had the billy big balls exemption

sounds like you have too or you wouldn’t of commented ?

Had the honour of pulling a fridge yesterday for a german firm we do some work for in the uk, first thing I noticed was the locked and sealed control panel, asked how I was supposed to switch it off after I was un loaded too be told call in when I’m empty and they will switch it off for me as it’s controlled from the offices. They had so much trouble all over Europe with fridges being switched off that over the last 2 years they been replacing there fridge fleet with armoured fuel lines, kevlar lined fuel tanks and satellite controlled fridges. So it bad news if you don’t like a fridge running as driver may have no control over it
