Was anyone in at Washington services NB late last night? There was a wee bit of drama after some ■■■■ with a fridge (that sounded like a 747 taking off) rocked up at 2:30am and proceeded to park (well, attempt to) next to all the non-fridge trucks instead of over the other side. Made a ■■■■ of parking it as he took about 4 shunts, revving the ■■■■■■■■ off it AND had his ■■■■■■■ reversing alarm turned on. Then, to add insult to injury, once he finally got it in… he sat there with it idling and still in reverse (beeep, beeep, beeeeeeep, etc) for a good few minutes before someone finally snapped and got out to “have a word” with him
Couple minutes of raised voices etc, the last thing i heard was “NAW!, ■■■■ off” slam before Mr Fridge ■■■■ ■■■■■■ off into the darkness.
Was mildly amusing, though not at 2:30am. A side note: It seems tramping is turning me into a curtain-twitcher
It often seems to me that a small proportion of drivers who work nights deliberately make as much noise as possible, presumably on the grounds that “If I’m awake, then so should everybody else be”. Many seem to consider it compulsory to sound a long blast on their horn to say goodbye to their mate after doing a changeover in the services at 02:30.
As a night driver myself, if I ever pull into a services for a break or to park up for a daily rest I always try my best to keep noise to a minimum. Reverse beeper off, idle the truck into position using minimum throttle & maximum clutch, then once I’m parked turn the engine off straight away before I start faffing with the tacho etc.
I’d only expect the same attitude towards me while I’m trying to sleep during the day time.
You’ll never fix the noise of a fridge motor, but it isn’t all that difficult to keep noise to a minimum with everything else. It amazes me how long some people will sit with the engine running while parked next to a truck with its curtains closed.
I have done daytime trailer changes when night guys have been asleep, and I always give them the courtesy I would expect if I was a sleep at night. As little noise as is possible.
Lots of drivers these days are so half witted they probably don’t realise they are causing a problem, if I have to use an MSA off goes the fridge and noise is kept to a minimum off with the radio and engine ASAP on departure engine on and gone.
I like a bit of peace and quiet during my break, answer me this, why do these imbeciles insist on running there engines pointlessly for long periods of time when people are sleeping or enjoying the silence you wouldn’t leave you’re car running for 10 minutes in the services why with the truck ■■?
Cue said imbeciles RE: spinning turbos and how the oil has to “get around” the engine.
We all know services can be tight parking at times , 0230 I dare say it was full to the brim plus some! 4 shunts is hardly making a mess of it, he did no damage parking it and needed a brake. He has as much right as anyone to be there , are we day drivers courteous to those that we see sleeping during the day on services . Didn’t think so

Speak for yourself mate, if I see a motor with curtains drawn, night or day, I try my best to be quiet, as I know how annoying these inconsiderate twunts are when you are parked up trying to kip.
Parked on the motorgrill recently there was what I thought to be a fridge running which is unusual on there ,30 mins later it’s still running ,just iam getting out to turn it off a 7.5 tonner appears ,turns out he’d been sat with the engine running !

Highlighted information means ■■■■ all about him turning it off, unless I read it wrong of course? He said he got to turn it off but he didn’t. So as per he can give it warrior status online and in reality he did ■■■■ all

If you drive a fridge, or any lorry that makes a racket, you should use a bit of common sense and some courtesy but that seems to be too difficult for some.
A standard break on the services at night can usually park somewhere near the pumps by the exit where every can get round and you don’t need to block the pumps up like Birds used to at Hilton Park regularly, simlarly if you have to park near sleeping drivers or delivering to a supermarket near houses you can pull up before the lorry park or (supermarket) somewhere away from the site a couple of minutes out and shut the fridge down.
Just takes a bit of thought.
One of my old Kwik Save mates didn’t switch the fridge off before delivering to Thamesmead, as he backed into the shop (daytime) an old kitchen fridge (the irony) dropped from top of the block of flats smashed to pieces right beside his cab…he switched the fridge off next time…

Good luck, my trucks unmarked.
