Two Turkish trucks laden with televisions were refused to park up overnight inside the security of their large RDC,a police van moved them on to a dark waste ground area, with security, about half a mile from the RDC,the copper told me,it was due to insurance that they were not allowed to enter the site,as a truck coud have had drinks or tobacco, which is too high for insurers if some was stolen, imagine a full load of whiskey.
The port area was marked up as private, and double yellow lines all over the place, the copper also mentioned that some foreign drivers refuse to move on,and they call out a tow truck to move them, the drivers tell the police,he has had too much to drink,so cant drive out the gates.
The Turkish trailers were tautliners, easy to cut the sheet with high value goods, and they were worried, and parked in the Tesco truck lane, talking to a box on the gate,in a language they do not know, the security were messing them around,as it was a shift change, and i heard him say,to tell the Turks to come back in two hours, knowing full well, they could not enter to park up.
Perhaps it is indicative that valuable loads like that should be transported in box vehicles than curtainsiders?
Whatever Tesco says, goes. It is there premises, their rules. I am sure a lot of drivers would give you their views on the situation but the RDC have to look after their own property at the end of the day and it is up to their managers to interpret the rules as they so wish, being managers.
We probably wouldn’t agree though. Clearly you don’t either, as you’re posting here!
Or maybe down to the traffic planners in the Turkish office to list safe places for their drivers, the police man said, they will not pay for parking, they were booked in to tip the next morning, then there is the sanitory arrangements of needing the loos in the night, they may have been locked on that particular shift.
I’m asuming these Turks had parked en route to tesco.
So where did they park previously?
Curtain side FFS
Imagine it the other way around with a brit who does not speak turkish trying to tip in Mugla or Ankara with a high value load,i was there to help the turks, they offered to make make me tea and breakfast in the morning,i can not see a fellow brit ofering anything except a scowl and a i know better that you expression buried deep in his eyebrows of an island monkey.
Not just Tesco though. I brought a load of computer parts and screens from France for NYK in Northampton, they refused to let me park inside even though it had been arranged through the Findern office. The jobsworth on the gate would not even contact his manager to ask if I was telling him the truth. I was on that occasion, luckily I managed to get parked in Christian Salvesen as it was another regular drop of ours. There have been dozens of slashes and break ins on that estate
Due to insurance? What poppycock.
They’re not insured against theft on the road and they’re not in the RDC, no different.
In fact the RDC is more secure so theft is less likely. Daft.

Daft but true, unfortunately
We have it regularly, 2 polish artics turn up mid afternoon, and as we only accept goods till midday (artics are always booked in) they can’t be tipped till the following morning so they park up outside gates, absolutely no overnight parking in the yard cos of insurance . Someones cottoned on to tjis and quite often a couple of pallets of boilers go missing. Don’t know how the insurance is worked out cos the boilers are ours made in Poland, but the damage done to the curtains is dramatic, they cut a pallet width hole 2m high! It’s happened so often that the factory in Poland struggle to get hauliers to bring em over. Plods interest goes as far as giving out a crime number. The first time it happened the b/m refused the lot, refused to let the drivers use our facilities, even down to helping to find someone to repair curtain so he could take the load back. God knows why the boilers aren’t put in containerss like the our radiators that are also made in Ploand.

Tescos along with every other organisation that refuses to let you at least drop your trailer inside their depot for safer parking of high value goods are total *********** (Choose your own description). I had exactly this problem last night and was told I couldn
t even drop the trailer. Went to the nearest “Secure” lorry park at 20.20hrs and was told it was full. Luckily I was OK but not happy.
I understand the need to plan around these things but you are not always delivering from nearby as in these Turks case. My load had traveled 400 miles again not around the corner.
Its time these *********** woke up and started acting sensibly.
