Was talking to a guy in a Tesco RDC

jessicas dad:
ive done it when the agency work was going well years ago, but like all else them days are long gone. i though howdens were run by dhl.

you beat me to it, as I see them back hauling along side us (DHL) out of kraft bicester, also a DHL site

scotstrucker:
i would suspect to get in to drive at that place you would have too know a driver there as drivers wouldnt leave and jobs would never be advertised for that sort of wages

It is a “dead mans shoes” job. The way you used to get in in the past was to do a couple of years there fulltime through the agency and then they’d take you on. At the moment they’ve had a fleet reduction and there’s nobody due to retire anytime soon so even though there’s four or so regular agency drivers there, they’re going to be there a fair bit longer than 2 years before they get a job.

M G b:
I was told the Howdens trucks are DHL. They load out of Bicester a lot and the guy in there told me.

The ones at the main factory I was at at Howden are their own wagons. The NDC and Runcorn are DHL and we used to trunk trailers to various DHL depots around the UK on nights for forward delivery by DHL the following day although their own wagons still do store deliveries during the day as well.

The ones you saw at Kraft would most likely be the ones from NDC at Northampton or from one of the many depots that we trunked trailers to.

Mind you, if you were to go into Howdens factory at Howden around midnight, you could be forgiven for thinking it was DHL with the amount of their motors in the place.

i can confirm the salary at howdens as i have been permanent since 2004,it is 35,500 for 56 hrs per week,32 days holidays, company sick scheme, and yearly bonus.

Totally believable, good firms pay good money and yes these jobs are not advertised very often.

We pay £500 in the bank for a working week - £300 in the bank for holidays
and our drivers still aren’t happy
cheers
Steve

Depending on what the working week comprises (ie 40 hours, no nights out) I wouldn’t be too impressed with that either.

That sounds more like what our agency lads have been telling us,they said it is about £12 ph and it’s dead mans shoes, most good paying jobs are,our place has a waiting list for driving jobs and the last group we took on had been waiting around 2 years :open_mouth:

Well just so everyone knows…Sainsbury’s drivers at Basingstoke RDC are on 36k pa for 48hours a week…hence why I want a ■■■■■■■ job with them! Not to mention, one of the crimbo bank holidays, not sure which one, is 3x pay!

Depends what the work entails though? If Sun-Fri/Sat out every night then yes its crap… If its a set day/night (8-10hours) home every day/night then its decent…

Wonder if he’d get into one for it?
