Was I Wrong ?

I wouldn’t say you were wrong, more of not thinking things through.

I’d say make it to the next drop, as others have said and park up and take your break there. By all means, for the facilities that services offer, if you need to stop for a break for those reasons no problem.

Say you’d stopped for a 2 hour break then driven there and hit traffic, roadworks, or some diversion and you were late… Wouldn’t look too good would it :astonished: Even if you can’t park at the drop, you can find somewhere closer can’t you

Like others have said, should have just gone to your next drop and parked up as near as possible. I’d never kill time before a drop in an MSA because I don’t trust the motorways. If there was an RTA and the road got shut/traffic backed up whilst you were in the services, you’d be left somewhat red faced.

Well this is a regular job I end up doing about once every two weeks, & firstly there is no chance of an early collection.

Point taken about being held up on the way.

The boss’s gripe was about wasting fuel though which I just found ridiculous.

Secretelephant:
I finished a drop, & my next collection & last job was half hour drive away & not due to pick up for another 3.5 hours. So I decided to head for a local MSA to wait out for a couple of hours or so. However to get there ment going 4 miles/ 5 minutes in the wrong direction to the next collection.
When my gaffer found out what I’d done he hit the roof for wasting diesel, telling me I should head straight for the next job & waited around at a local supermarket cafe or something.
The way I see it, I wasted 8 miles or around 3litres/£3.50 of diesel to park in a safe area out of anyones way. The real ironry though is my boss is paying me over £60 to do a job that takes an hour & twenty minutes.

Hope he doesnt look on here,he might have an opinion on the £60 you are getting paid!!

Sorry to say drive I can’t see the sense in what you did. Why not as others have said. I always rock up early and see if I can tip early.

Services are for sleeping

“Yes boss, sorry boss, I see the error of my ways”. Then forget about it and move on.
Next trip you do as the boss suggests and get a cut curtain whilst waiting and it will be "Why didn’t you go and park on the services?

Two rules to remember.

  1. The boss is always right.

  2. Should circumstances prove that for once the boss was wrong; refer to rule one.

He’ll be even more cheesed off when the £100 bill arrives from CP Plus for overstaying the free two hour parking time. :stuck_out_tongue:

Always phone and ask

Buy your boss a box of £3 chocolates and say “We are even”

£3.50 for 3 litres of diesel?

jameskent:
£3.50 for 3 litres of diesel?

Less than that, this week’s price for diesel is 110.96 pence per litre so that’s about £3.33.

Does he give out if you leave the engine running for a few minutes in the morning to warm up the cab, NO.

I’d go three or four miles out of my way if it meant I could get a coffee and use the bog, whatever the gaffer said. Whatever happened to the haulage industry? Back in the day, I’d go anywhere up to twenty miles off route if it meant getting to a good place to park up for the night. Now trackers have put paid to that, and there’s nowhere good to park up anyway.
