Was I very bad?

Trying to find out the kerb weight of a Volvo 6 x 4 FE with a 9.3+ ltr engine. From what I’ve found it would be less than 8 tonnes, does this sound right? Hope so
Bet you can guess why

Would taking it to a weighbridge help

I might not see it for a while. If I give more info I might put myself in bother

Gordy:

hmmmm… You mean VOSA will give you a GV9 with a list as long as your weekly shoping receipt  :exclamation: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I’m currently piloting a 57 plate one on the agency, and there was an article in CM a few weeks ago about it,and they reckoned it could take a payload of 18 tonnes, which would make it around the 8 tonnes mark unladen.

The only trouble with them is,they don’t like weight on the front end,and you can hear the front mudflaps scraping when you go around corners, otherwise they pull well.

8 speed box,and 320 bhp,seems a little over the top for 26 tonnes,but who am I to argue.

Ken.

Is this the one?

These weights are for tipper and platform only, a box body or curtainsider will obviousley be different

Just been reading the spec sheet again and adding up the options can put another 1000kgs on these weights

I think this is close

Now I’ve seen the weights I’m a bit more relaxed about my wee adventure last week

Gordy,
I edited my post after you had read it.

depending on the options on the vehicle, and this includes derv and driver etc you may have to add on up to 1000kgs, so that would take all the weights over 8 tons and maybe up to 9 tons

What type of body ■■

Dropside, looks like I’m in the clear

are you going to tell us the story then?

Well just make sure you tell us the innards when you can,

If its what I think it is then they go by the plated weight not the kerb weight

Plated weight = MAM, am I correct?

I was very lightly loaded, but was curious if I nearly overloaded something

Yep, MAM. For a 6 wheeler that would probably be 26t

OK, for those who haven’t already guessed, my ■■■■■■■ directed me to a 10T limit bridge, and to get back on the main road would have meant a very dodgy ‘Y’ junction negotiation, so I figured with the light load I had I was very close to 10T, so over I went, buttocks clenched, and here I am to tell the tale.
The following day the Tomtom sent me down a road where the branch off to my drop was now closed due to a dual carriageway having been built at least 5 years ago.

My excuse for not having my maps was that I had commuted to the job on the motorbike and not fitted my topbox, my bag only big enough for pieces, gloves and TT.
Lesson learned I can assure you

I assume then you got out, and checked the bridge was still standing and had’nt crumbled away behind you   :open_mouth: :exclamation:  :unamused:

I’m just waiting now for someone on here to say “That happened to my mate once…” :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

so, if i have read the posts correctly, you were driving a 26 tonne truck, with a light load (possibly totalling less than 10 tonne), and you went over a weak bridge 10 tonne limit…

is that correct?

if it is, you was breaking the law

regardless of the total weight that the truck was at the time of the “incident”, the truck is plated at 26 tonne, if the police would have seen you, you would now be writing a post about how you have been badly wronged by the law for doing what you have done

if i was to drive a tractor unit which weighs 7 tonne (unit only) through a 7 1/2 tonne weight limit, i could be prosecuted for it because the truck is plated to either 40 or 44 tonne depending on axles.

It is not the actual weight of the vehicle at the given time, it is the plated weight and what it is taxed at that counts.

it is up to you if you want to do it again, but if you get caught, don’t come on here bleating about it after
