Take it from me, you can’t get a 13’ 1" trailer under this 13’ 3" bridge.

Coffeeholic:
Amazing that so many drivers that don’t have a [zb]ing clue what road signs mean are allowed out on the road on a daily basis. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:
. Drivers slowing right down and sticking their head out of the window are just displaying their total lack of knowledge regarding either road signs, the true height of their vehicle, or both.

OK Coffee, fair enough, if you want to interpret caution as ignorance,… ok I’m ignorant  never done me any harm in my driving career so far though

Wheel Nut:
Ignore what it says on the trailer, ignore what it says on the fifth wheel, unless you have physically measured them with a tape measure or a height pole.

No vehicles over height given!

That what these signs say too!

triangle warns…circle prohibits

The sign on the bridge is giving you no information about the actual height of the bridge other than it is much more than 14’ 9". The sign tells you the maximum height of vehicle which can pass through. If I know the vehicle is 14’ 9", because I’ve measured it and not just gone by something written on the headboard, and the sign says 14’ 9" then I’m not even slowing down because it will sail through easily. If it doesn’t then the sign is wrong and it’s not my problem. Drivers slowing right down and sticking their head out of the window are just displaying their total lack of knowledge regarding either road signs, the true height of their vehicle, or both.

i thought that if it is marked with a triangle…then that is the available headroom i.e you might want to take it slowly with your 14.8 trailer.
if it is marked with a circle…there will be a margin of leeway,so no need to slow at all

Well put it this way, I’ve taken a 15ft high trailer under a 14’6 bridge in Princes Risborough.
I’ve also taken a 14’9 trailer underneath another 14’6 bridge in Romsey,
And i take a 15’9 double decker underneath 15’6 bridge in Greenford. I’ve got a few more but you get the point.

And when I come to a bridge, if I’ve got a 14ft trailer on and the bridge is marked at 14ft I will slow down and dump the air before I get there.
I know perfectly well what the signs mean but I’m in charge at the end of the day and I haven’t hit a bridge before and never will.

If a matrix sign on the motorway says “fog” but it’s a clear summers day, do you switch your fog lights on because the sign told you so■■? Same principal.

i agree…maybe the dcpc is`nt such a bad thing afterall

16ft trailers go under the 16ft arched bridge on the A420 at Swindon
In the second pic it seems the corner of the trailer is where it caught the bridge. As it’s on a slight bend maybe it was heeled over a little??
Anyway if you read the papers article it would seem the bridge is no longer used. This is true all over the country. Why can’t they just be removed??
Must be worth a bit in scrap and would cut costs in fuel etc.
