Warnings!

Hi,
Just a quick one. I am aware of flashing drivers in on motorway and always do it.
My question is… How do you alert a driver that he is cutting in too soon?

Lay on the horn…hit the brakes !..then pass him and give him a wave 2 fingers.

I had a close one today. His trailer was still 4 ft at the side as he started coming across. Had to swerve onto hard shoulder. No sorry flashes of indicators or anything.

Just move on to hard shoulder a few feet, if there’s nothing on it ahead of course and he should get the message or move in to lane 2 if its free for a bit.

How the hell do you move into lane 2 when someone is still alongside you?

don’t see how you can warn him, he is clearly not using his nearside mirror so would not see any warnings.
In the dark I suppose full beam but not flashing might wake him up.
Doubt he would hear a normal horn.
or if you don’t like your motor, keep quiet and hold your position

I tend to stay out longer than neccesary.
Is it just me/I’ve noticed the last few years a lot of Drivers either don’t flash you in or it’s just a quick flash that you don’t notice.
I always flash for a couple of seconds to make sure that the overtaking vehicle has seen it.
I know the highway code say’s to only flash to warn other drivers that you are there, but this one has been the Truckers unwritten code for years.

You could try reducing your speed and letting the other driver pass.

If the other is going by you steadily and then decides to cut in too early all you can do is to hit the brakes and pull slightly left but be aware that if that means using the shoulder it may cause a greater incident should there be something there

If the lane they came from is vacant then pull into that lane as soon as their rear is clear so your forward safety gap is re-established quickly - the alternative is to keep braking until it is

Yes but that wasn’t question and more often than not it wouldn’t make any difference. Drivers cutting in to soon is happening all to often and is down to poor driving standards.

You still on for Stobarts?

I actually laughed when i read that, ■■■■■■■ brilliant  !

OP, have you thought it could be you at fault and people are moving back in on you because you driving like a ■■■■■ Ie someone moves over so you can join the mway then you leave them hanging in lane 2 or you slow up on the hills then wont let people back in once your on the flat. Im not suggesting your like this but worth thinking about it because you say alot of people are doing this to you.

No but backing off slightly is almost certainly the answer, there are drivers who when you move over to let them join they leave you out in lane 2, the most worrying thing for me is many of these so called drivers don’t even realize they’re driving like d***s.

This is not directed at the O.P but you all know the type of individual I’m talking about.

You can move to lane 2 after he’s past you to show your displeasure at him merging left too soon.

Ive not had one (HGV) come back in to soon for many months now but i reckon a bigger problem is drivers of pick-ups and vans etc that FORGET they have a trailer on full stop.
Had a cloud head last week on the DC piece of the A30, a pick-up towing an empty twin axle plant trailer, he pulled back in so quick and steep, it was litterally inches in single figures between the near side corner of the trailer and the off side bumper of the truck.
Its all very well saying 'lay on the brakes or the horn but that happened so bloody quick it was all over before I had time to react.

It’s even more important now with speed limiters to use that old code and for drivers to make sure that they stay out in lane 2 and wait for the flash and for those being overtaken to make sure that they always provide it because of the ridiculously low overtaking speed differentials. :bulb:
