We can all learn from this unhappy event

it wont help the OP but its a good idea to use the advance settings of your smart phone to lockdown the security of it.
iPhones have the facility to lock the find my phone app so the scrotes cannot disable it even if its switched off.
You can also set the phone to wipe the memory if 10 sucessive unsuccessful attempts to unlock it happen (not great after 10 pints) also the 4 digit pass key on an iphone is too easy to unlock. So change it to a more advanced 10+ digit alphanumeric passcode

10,000 possible combinations?? Too easy?

10,000? Are you sure? 26 lower case.26 upper case,10 digits and say 10 symbols. 72 different keys. Getting ten right from them odds must be in millions. Getting 6 right out of 49 is 14 million to one!

I always take my phone out with me, my wallets always in my pocket as are my car keys…

Never put you wallet ANYWHERE.
Even after a couple of years of retirement mine is still fastened to my belt loop with a chain.

Seeing as you asked, . If it’s 10 random characters from the 72, then it can worked out as 3743906242624487400 different combinations. :grimacing:

Once say a driver lose his wallet on a chain
Scumbags on a moped grabbed the chain! Not only did he lose his wallet with cash and all his cards in it, he had to walk back to the truck with only half his jeans !!

Correct … you only have to look on google to see how easy the 4 digit key is to crack.
also remember, that most people using the 4 digit key won`t have gone to the trouble of setting up the advanced security features.
So its unlikely the phone will trigger & erase any data that’s on it. leaving the scumbag infinite time to randomly enter the passkey, till they hit the right one.

Unless you’re female why on earth would anyone leave their phone on their bag, I keep mine in my pocket or it’s in my hand…!?

You can sign up for a gmail (google email) account and log in from your phone to back up all your contacts to the cloud.
When you get a new sim you can then back up from the cloud.

That’s waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy too technical for the average truck driver who can`t even be bothered to RTFM when they buy the phone, let alone set the phone up to back the data up to “the Cloud”

Sheffield (some parts like Northern Avenue etc) are as rough as a bears arse.

I used to live on there, next door neighbours burgled us one Christmas. That was 20 years ago and its gone down hill since!

Bolsterstone might be a small village but it’s less than a mile from stocksbridge and there are some rough estates in stocksbridge.

you aint wrong about stocksbridge, my partner comes from there and were moving down in 6 weeks time when i’m made redundent.

Yes, granted, but just in case, the info is there ! :grimacing:

Had an incident in Blackburn, tipped the last of my load of radiators at a plumbers merchant in a backstreet, rung up for my collection and was told they would ring me back as they had nothing sorted, so jumped on the bunk for a lie down, 20 mins later and the door opens and some smack head is climbing into my cab, he got a swift kick to the head which put him to the floor and his excuse was that he knew I was in the cab and just wanted to know the time :unamused: would have called the police but didnt want to waste my time and i think the shock and the lump on his head might make him think twice.

there’s that many windows boarded up in Stocksbridge the window cleaner uses a sander! :grimacing:

I know it’s a bit much but sometimes I think it would be good to have the same law as the Arab country’s as regards theft. One strike your left hand comes off, two strikes your personal time hand comes off. Job done.
