This happened to someone I know parked up for a break one night went to sleep in the bunk when I woke did my checks and discovered someone had unclipped the dogclip and released the pin then clipped it back up if he hadn’t of checked would of lost the trailer or worse just beware some complete idiots about. Please pass this onas we all need to be vigulant.

As part of your daily check always check the pin!
Padlocks are no good if you regularly change trailers
Oh did I say Always check the pin
standard routine after any sleep, even just a 45, is ;
(1) wake up
(2) scratch nuts
(3) leave cab
(4) pee up wheel
(5) check pin
(6) jump back in & drive off
Two mins takes a padlock off!

You could do 4 with a bit of commitment
Drill a hole for it
I presume this is why we’re taught to do walk round checks after every rest period/before a journey etc.
There are some brainless people out there who would get kicks out of someone else misfortune. Just goes to show, remain vigilant

Geesh thats abit extreme
How could it have been clipped back on after being pulled?

Ah but thought that is what the 5th wheel was for

that’s what I was thinking. The holes will only line up if the 5th wheel jaws are locked. The only way it could happen is if the unit and trailer have moved apart, which they shouldn’t do if the brakes are on.
Good luck to them - i have a right mess around trying to pull the pin even when i want to - if there is the slightist pressure on it i just can’t get it out
needs the hand brake off on the unit to release the pressure before i can pull it
cheers
Steve
Thanks for sharing that.
I’m not out driving yet but I wouldn’t have thought to check…
