Taken from another forum (but I can’t tell you where!! ) for which credit is due. It worked brilliantly for me, and many others!!

FireFox Load Time might be old stuff but maybe useful to anyone who has not seen it
Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll
down and look for the following entries:
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time.
When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really
speeds up page loading.
Alter the entries as follows:
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This
means it will make 30 requests at once.
Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.
Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”.
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.
If you’re using a brodband connection you’ll load pages 2-3 times faster now
Let us all know if it works well for you too!!
PS. I’m not the ‘tech support’ for this bit of info - if you don’t like it, don’t use it!!
Seems to work for me, alhough I rarely use Firefox. I tend to use it when IE is playing games with me. If you could get ebay and Google toolbars for it I’d probably use it all the time.
I downloaded Firefox v2 a couple of days ago but haven’t yet ‘tweaked’ its settings. So far I have only noticed a couple of minor cosmetic changes but I guess most of the ‘new bits’ are happening ‘behind the scenes’. One good bit though, is that it is spell-checking even as you type into websites etc etc (such as this post/site)!!
Anyway, so far so good. (And it still kicks the arse of that IE crap, even if it is improved)

Seems to have problems with the addons. Thinks they are not compatible with v2 every now and then. Trys to update then realises they are actually OK because you’ve downloaded the ones that were designed for v2.
Apart from that its OK. and I agree with your IE statement, just wish the work would let me update the laptop to use FF instead of IE6 and windows 98
