I’ve now got a little bit of experience with various motors and trailers.
Thing is I’m definitely sick of multi-drop & moving cages, plus I find it stressfull to be reversing around corner shops in an artic near the general public. It won’t help my job hunt being picky(!) . But having spoken to a lot of drivers, some of them much prefer the variety of multi-drop, so I get the impression it’s not a complete stampede for the more straightforward work.
Is my best bet to look for jobs directly on company websites? (DHL, etc).
I’m near Southampton, I was thinking of going in to see container companies also. Level of pay is not a big concern and I am totally fine to work nights & weekends.

Good job this is on the Newbie forum as the professional drivers on the other forum would be going spare at the thought of someone else who isn’t too fussed on pay working nights and weekends lol.
If you are going to see container firms, you will need to be prepared to do nights out. Trunking work is hard to come by, and round here it’s mostly agencies that cover it. Look at your options. General haulage is mostly, load, deliver, drive, load, deliver etc. Not really multidrop. As a newboy do everything you can, fridges, general, boxes etc, then decide, as you’ll have more experience to offer.
Not sure if you are near Andover but Norbert Dextrus dangles ( ) are looking for drivers. I even saw an agency (Milestone) recently offering relocation packages for it! as well as weekly fuel incentives I believe trunking is on offer as well as class 2 work…seems to be quite a few vacancies with pay for class 1 varying between £10.55 to £14.80. 10 hour shifts with overtime after 48 hours.
