Walking off site

On Agency It Wasn’t uncommon for newly passed class 1 drivers to turn up on site and be given the keys to a rigid, van or 7.5T, only for them to flounce off site stating “I’m not driving that, I’m a class 1 driver”. What they generally forget was they would’ve been paid class 1 rate for the day anyhow

I came onto this site to learn about flouting the law.
To earn more buck for my bang, so to speak!

I like how prolific posters have a total disregard to DVSA and seem to do what they choose to do willy nilly.
Maybe this forum should have a sticky topic on how best to place a magnet on a limiter.
Or the best company’s to work at,
for under £8.45p per hour.

You place the magnet on wearing gloves so as not to leave fingerprints :sunglasses:

I stopped feeding him a while ago now when it became clear he had abandoned even trying to be witty.
Now looking at it from the outside, it’s actually amusing to see the clear desperation for attention in his posts.
If he doesn’t get the attention and is ignored, he will go away

I’m surprised nobody has trotted out the old “I reversed into the bosses Jag/Range Rover/Beemer (delete as appropriate) before dropping the keys down the drain” story yet…

What would be the breaking point that you would just walk, something like you are already out on the road and something changes, would you walk straight away or wait till you do the disagreement and drive back
I do know people who walked and never said where the truck was left and dumped the keys, i even knew one that put a bag of salt in the tank before walking
There is no doubt there are haulage companies that do try and wipe your eye some will go to any length to lie and get the last bit of blood from you

generally anywhere ive been then we part on good terms though one dirtbag over here kept paying me short over a period of a few weeks, postdated cheques ect to the extent that he got told that if i didnt see the shortfall in cleared funds by the time i was loading for home a couple days later then the truck would get parked up and id just sell the diesel, bling, and anything else i could get unscrewed… i did get paid then just left as i had removed my kit ready to lift when home.

another one got told 3 month notice i was taking 4 days at a bank holiday.
i ended up not getting home till 2 days into my four, and eventually just told him to ■■■■ of and removed my kit as he wanted me to leave 2 days later for antwerp.

ive thrown the head up a couple of times over the years as no doubt most folk do,but eventually sorted things out if the job was basically spot on anyway.

mostly ive virtually always worked/subbed for small outfits where the boss has a face and its a personal relationship and if i decide i dont eventually like them,or they try to mess, then theres no big deal in leaving as theres always plenty of good jobs on the go if you know whats what.

i only do last minute trips now as and when it suits me so long as i get my inflated use me as a last resort rate and i know the ones that call me anyway so on that basis its all good though once you away then theres always the goalposts getting moved with the usual pleading phone call.

Left a removal motor down south with porters in it. Got train home.

Flung keys at boss after 1 week of 22 loads a day and parked up early on friday and he had a go over radio at me.

Told gaffer to stick his job ip his ring when he offered me a 50p per hour rise after 12 week probation.

I could write a book.

Hence why i dont drive lorries anymore the whole games ■■■■■■

When I first passed I’d often get put in a class 2 or a van, mentioned to them I’m doing it for the experience and they were nice enough to give me class 1 shifts. After a while though when the odd class 2 or job came up I’d happily do it, as you said, I’d be paid class 1 rate anyways and in a van I ain’t limited to 56mph so can easily smash out the shift and get paid my full 8 hours.

I would never flounce off though as if I’m too good to drive a smaller class vehicle. As long as they’re straight up about it and pay me I couldn’t give a ■■■■

Yep, I worked for Next through agency, arrived in depot one morning, and after much umming and aaahing, told that they only had van work available, and they hesitantly asked if I was willing to do that. Sure I said, as long as I get paid my usual rate. They were very surprised, because class 1 drivers usually stomp off muttering the usual “beneath me, not driving that, I’m a class 1 driver blah blah”.

Never understood that attitude, it just shows both immaturity and insecurity imo.
There’s nothing clever or kudos related to driving an artic ffs, :unamused: …(unless you’re about 12 years old or are of that intelligence level.)

If my lot offered me a half decent clean Transit van, and paid me the same rate of pay for driving it, I’d snap their ■■■■ hands off.

I remember from mid80s I was called by local hauler , I hear your between jobs come on in to yrd , yup I did money was talked about so much a shift. Ok , go in shed and help load trailer (was given idea that it was my load for a run down south). ■■■. Treadaire handball 4 o us loading from a forklift. Well loaded it shut door and another empty came into the dock , I was like see you guys , only to see the first trailer heading out o the yrd , so being young and not so stupid I walked into office to be greater with why you in here that trailer on docks to be loaded , now these pricks knew fine I was a driver as I had picked up from the yrd before when wae another firm , I got the you need to work your bones before we let you drive … ahhh after I had my. Say I was never to darken their door again, haul any o their trailers get a lift home hitching in any unit , seems they didn’t like the truth a mouthy young driver had to tell them and yup they made an owner driver pay me off about 3 yrs later when I was seen pulling one o their euroliners . The gateman didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when he escorted me off the premises
