I may have the chance of a tramping job on walking floors after easter folks,so given that I have never used one. Can anybody tell me that has experience of these what the pit falls or the good points are please…
Can be dirty, dusty, smelly and some ■■■■ delivery points.
Give it a go, those who do it seem happy with their lot

Yeah ive seen some of the sites, its mainly coal, coke, glass, household waste etc etc and some dp points can be a pain but I think sitting in a Tesco RDC or on the bunk for 6 hours whilst a container is unloaded can loose its novelty value as well…I hate RDC,s as well
The job is tramping anywhere in UK 5 Nights…News scania Unit and trailer take home approx 550 not a fortune but not too bad either…

who are you going to be driving for? i have been on them now for over 15 yrs now, love the job, it won’t be a easy job, you’ll be flat out from start to finish, it’s all about getting the load on and off asap, the rates have been driven down so much over the years by more and more people coming into the sector that every load counts to the truck earning the money thats required,
but if you don’t mind hard work go for it, it can be dusty and as someone else said smelly as well but i don’t take any notice any more,
a lot of operators pay on a percentage of truck earnings as well so the more you do the more you earn, even stobarts pay on percentage so its not just the smaller operators, i am lucky we are on salary so that i don’t have to worry that much about the rates on the jobs. but apart from that best of luck to you hope you enjoy the job

Hya mate thanks for the reply…
I don’t want to say just yet who its for as the job is not secured 100% but 99%…The firm runs tippers as well and I know the company trainer from a previous job…He tells me the tippers are flat out but the WF are a bit quieter…They are opening a new yard/depot after easter so im trying to weigh up if its worth taking. The hourly rate aint sparkling but when you add on bits n bobs its not bad…
To be honest when Ive tramped before I always took the view im working anyway and if its within the law then im happy to work it…
Ive got a bit of a dilema because the firm I ran for on containers before taking my present job have also said there maybe a start after easter closure as well…
Im no stranger to crappy loading points etc ,done containers in scrap yards, household waste sites and so on…not bothered about graft or muck …
I do however hate RDC crap…
