Waiting for licence after medical

My LGV licence runs out on the 25 Feb. Passed the medical and posted everything off over 3 weeks ago (30 Jan). Not heard nothing yet, checked online and the LGV entitlement is still going to run out on the 25 Feb. Anyone one else having problems or are they just picking on me!!! Realise the delay is probably Covid related. but still leaves me out of work. Dunno if this makes any difference am on yearly medicals.

If you posted it on January 30th and today is the 19th of February then you didn’t post it “over 3 weeks ago” As you claim, stop exaggerating.
It’ll come when it comes, there’s a pandemic on don’t you know?

Posted mine off on 8th February and got it back yesterday, possibly worth chasing up.
Not sure what the pandemic has to do with it but some people like to keep pointing it out [emoji57]

Reduced staff levels in offices so they’re not able to process the normal amount of stuff.

I think you can carry on driving as you have provided the form in good time. Would be worth checking it has been received though.

Strange that as mine came through quick enough.

More like the predictable results of centralisation. As opposed to when driving licences and vehicle registrations were processed by the local county council offices.
I had to use my old paper licence and my passport at numerous places for ID purposes. Then managed to mislay them and had to report them missing. Then found them again too late.
So filled out the application for a new licence online but further security all has to be done by post.Which meant sending them the original copy of my birth certificate. Now I’m effectively without ID until they process it all.As opposed to doing it all in person at the local County Hall. That’s progress. :unamused:

Yes mine took ages to process so weeks / months is quite possible , I sent mine away & heard nothing , kept ring & kept being told it’s being processed, got to within a few days of it running out & got a letter telling me the application was with the traffic commissioner , this was a year + ago so unless the application has changed there a little box you have to fill in if you’ve had any issues with Vosa( it’s a bit blurred but that’s the jist of it ) , now after then speaking to the eastern traffic commissioners office if you fill that part in it will automatically be sent to them ( why DVSa couldn’t tell me that I don’t know ) . Anyway after speaking to secatary of traffic commissioner or who ever it was , they said yes they had my application & leave it with her & she’d ring me back , rang back & said shed electronically informed DVSa my application was ok to proceed as I’d already been dealt with via magistrates court , I still ended up with a week off unpaid as had no lisense until I got it sorted
So ignore all these know it alls with it will be sorted in days, yes if it’s a straightforward application , but if youve had a run in with vosa , court , traffic commissioner it can / did take me weeks / months to sort & get my lisense back

Reduced staff levels, probably the reason, many places have staff working from home to reduce the Covid risk.
My Daughter has been working from home, but its difficult as she normally has two screens to look at when she is in the office, but with only one at home work takes alot longer as she has to keep switching from one program to another. Even then she still has to go in once a week to get work not available on screen.

I’m still annoyed that when they changed over from the little black book HGV licence, (your own driving history there and then right from the pink pass slip that was the first entitlement) to the new type, they kept and disposed of my original licence at that renewal time, had i known this was likely i’d have declared it lost.

Passed test in 76 but according to my current licence have only hald entitlement since 91, no way of proving otherwise.
Not as it matters but it was yet another piece of perconal history gone in the blink of an eye, in a few generation’s time my great etc grandkids might have been happy to have such a keepsake.

More to the point for the OP, as CF says you could take a trip to your licencing dept offices and they’d sort things out while you waited.

Have discussed this with drivers in a similar situation, over recent months, up to six weeks seems to be the norm. On the pandemic front, the DVLA have always been useless ■■■■■■■■ and this just gives them an excuse to be useless for a ‘reason’. Personally, if I’m expected to work normally so should everyone else. Sick of all the namby-pamby COVID ■■■■■■■■ excuses frankly!!! Get back to work you lazy ■■■■■■■!!

As long as the OP satisfies all the requirements to get his licence renewed, in this case his doctor has not told him he is unfit to driver, or hasn’t had his licence suspended, and has sent off the medical and application form before the licence expired he will be still allowed to drive after the expiry date.
This is covered under section 88.

To continue driving under Section 88, you must meet all of the following criteria:
• Your doctor must have told you that you are
fit to drive. If your doctor is unsure about how a medical condition affects driving, they should refer to ‘Assessing fitness to drive – a guide for medical professionals’ at www.gov.uk/dvla/fitnesstodrive
• You have held a valid driving licence (see *below) and only drive vehicles you have applied for on your current application and were entitled to drive on your previous licence.
• If you hold a Group 2 (bus or lorry) licence, your entitlement has not been suspended, revoked or refused by a traffic commissioner.
• You meet any conditions that were specified on your previous licence that still apply.
• DVLA has received your correct and complete application within the last 12 months.
• Your last licence was not revoked or refused for medical reasons.
• You are not currently disqualified from driving by a court.
• You were not disqualified as a high risk offender on or after 1 June 2013 (a high risk offender is a driver convicted of a serious drink driving offence).

I have a prior to 91 start year on my class 1 entitlement as well, but also have a prior to 88 start year on my car entitlement, which just so happens to be the year I passed my class 1, and yes like you, I wish I kept hold of my little book.

Unless the company are being pendantic about it, see the bit about section 88 above which lets you continue (mostly). If you’re on yearly medicals, it might have to go to the medical dept of DVLA so could take extra time to return the plastic thing.

Am a bit worried about all these people operating from home in these kindof jobs. No controls on what they can copy down and perhaps sell to the wrong people. Most probably wouldn’t, but there’ll always be one.
