That’s nice, but what is the set-up? What prime mover and trailer, weights, axles etc? I’ve just noticed your location actually - would it happen to be Moores that I was talking about earlier? That would be uncanny if so!

I’ll leave it to TN Chief VOSA Official Mr. Vasco Ingles to delivery the verdict on whether you will be safe or not in the eyes of the law!

daft sod Rob
wagon empty 11 tons
trailer empty 5 tons … according to original post with max 10 ton load total 15 tons
truck 10 foot longer than trailer (that helps as it is not the trailer that begins to sway but the back end of the truck)
2 axled wagon bit of a disadvantage 3 would have been better.
but with only a 4 ton difference you should not have any problems really as part of that 10 ton load will be transferred to the drive axle of the wagon anyway because of the hook up.
Providing it is not a windy day and depending on how far you need to go and the type of road to be travelled on (main road/motorways ok hilly roads no) there should not be any problem at all, supposing the load on the drag is evenly distributed !!! about 2-3 tons of the total weight of the trailer will as said before be transferred to the drive axle via the hook up which I am supposing is placed just behind the axle.
For the last 10 years every trip in Europe involved my driving many miles with the Truck Empty and the trailer fully loaded and I have never ever had any problems, some of the other drivers have, but that is because they have loaded the trailer badly.(too much weight at the rear) We use the truck to transship the load from the trailer if necessary so always unload the front first, being multi drop we may just have a small amount on the front with lots on the trailer for a large percent of the trip.
truck unladen was 11 tonnes
trailer 6 tonnes
truck loaded 18 tonnes max
trailer loaded 24 tonnes max
with the trailer fully loaded and the truck empty I used to see a load of around 7 tonnes on the drive axle, the motor behaved impeccably.
this was with Drawbar trailer, when we had A frames it was the same
hi.
I drive a 3 box wag and drag.
One box on prime mover and two on a tri- wheel trailer.
we are about 2 inches below the legal length limit.
We have to empty from the back box first although you can get away with the second box loaded and the one on the prime mover empty. The weight on the drawbar does bare down on the drive wheels.
Did move a outfit around the yard once with the first 2 empty and had no drive at all.
Play it safe
