Wagon an drag

Hello gang, my first post to the site been behind the scenes getting help past few months on here an decided I would join up an get involved.

Past my class 2 in November an decided last week it’s time I did my class 1, so I’ve done it.

I’m just asking of anybody has any tips or helpful information on driving the wagon an drag, had a 4 hour training lesson today, just coupling an un coupling, an abit of reversing, I could not get my head around the reversing found it quite difficult. So any help along the way over the next 3 days upto my test will be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance an look forward to talking to you all

Reversing ;;Just take your time it’ll come, little movements with the steering wheel once straight do a little wiggle left then right then line your boxes up to look like one … like I said just take it steady and you’ll get there

For the reversing - is your instructor getting you to use bits on the drag to determine when you should do this or that?
If yes then that could be your problem - the best way is to get trained without doing that and for the instructor to teach you the basic under pinning knowledge so you have the tools to address and issues

Yeah he is doing, from it start, full right lock until I see middle of drag… Then left lock to straighten it up again, then keep it at a slight right bend heading for the Parking box. An that’s kind of where I lose it. Back in today for another 4 hours training, can only hope again. Just determined to do this an get my licence! So your right it will come eventually.

Did he start by teaching you how to straight line reverse it along a nearside painted line using little adjustments so you can start to get in the basics?

Straight line reversing followed by straight line with little “wiggles” is the way I teach. Then I use markers on the trailer for reassurance though the candidate should be able to reverse without these.

Hopefully your instructor is good enough to be able to sort you out.

You can also have 2 shunts forward at any point in the exercise. The biggest mistake here is not to go forward as far as you can (level with A cones). So if you’re getting it towards the box but not in it and you’ve already managed to keep off the yellow line and miss B cone there’s nothing stopping you pulling it over to the left and well forward (level with A cones) and then just pushing it straight back in. Not the best way but it will pass a test.

All the best with it.

Thanks for the help chaps cracked the reverse today, an he says if I don’t walk the test he’ll be shocked, feeling confident but don’t want to be over confident. Sitting my test at kirkham, not sure there’s anything else I need to know from here, the time is upon me! Mixed emotions!!

Glad you cracked it. Remember it isn’t a race, take your time on the test. All the best!

well done

All the best with it. Pete
