Can anyone tell me, If I report in for work and there is no work, for that day, Am I entitled to a days flat rate pay??

It probably says in your contract i’ll start there if I was you.

Are we talking employed or agency? If employed then yes. Don’t know about agency, you will have to read the contract you signed

Dont know at the minute but they will soon have us all stood outside the gates every morning begging for work alongside poles, latvians, bulgarians, romanians etc because that gives “them” control.

Its called the “law of supply and demand” they have a big supply and your in less of a demand.

Welcome to the real world.

Not a racist rant but believe a “government” should look after its own people as do the French and German states.

Had the same so sent email to agency

Could you advise regarding the cancellation of bookings?

On Monday 28th January I received a phone call at 12.36 pm for a booking for an 1800 hrs start at #####, I agreed and confirmed that I would be able to attend. Unfortunately upon arrival at ##### at 17.37 pm I was kindly informed that this booking had been cancelled.

I know that you have no control over the fact that jobs get cancelled but I had accepted this booking and therefore was committed to this agreement in doing so I turned down other work offered from other agencies, one being a night run and two others being day runs for Tuesday 29th January.

As ##### were aware that they had booked a driver for the 1800 hrs run at 12.36 pm do I receive a payment for the cancellation of the booking and if so how do I go about invoicing via timesheet?

I look forward to hearing from you on this matter.

Kind regards

Never heard back from them again and haven’t received any other work since

Sorry…Bking…but the above underlined is an economic model of price determination of a commodity in a market.
What this particular employer is doing is something else.

Sadly the above is all too common. I would expect to be paid if I turned up and would kick off if I didn’t receive payment. If you have the booking in writing then they should honour it. On the other hand these are agencies we are talking about so they won’t consider you in any way and are unlikely to pay unless you give them a lot of ■■■■, in which case you won’t receive further bookings.

What use are bookings though if they keep getting cancelled? Too many drivers bend over in such circumstances and unless that changes (yeh…right!) things won’t improve very much.

in other words RTFSP

As for agencies cancelling bookings, this isn`t too uncommon.
The cancellation rates/times are negotiated between the agy/company, and are specific to each contract. The same site can have several contracts for different jobs, each is negotiated differently, so 1 job will pay you 4hrs if cancelled within 1hr of start time, or 2hrs if cancelled within 2hrs, 8hrs if you make it to the gate & find its a double booking etc, another contract will pay nothing

If I got cancelled (Tossco are good at this) I refuse to work on that contract unless I get 8 hours or can drop onto something else. I now have a cast iron guarantee that I will not be cancelled at Tossco because I stuck to my guns…someone else will be cancelled though.

They agency knew there was a good chance you would be cancelled, they get drivers to commit to a shift, the client company are less busy then expected and goodbye agency driver, even more annoying when you have already turned down alternative work.

They are total scum, I have heard there are one or two good one’s about, but then pigs might fly and the moon could be made of cheese.

As others have said its what’s in you contract,we had real issues with getting back after 4/5/6 hrs then they wanted you to sit in canteen until you had done 8 hrs(we didn’t want too we just wanted to go home),they then started to pay you what you’d done,4hrs you got 4hrs pay, they said you had to do 8hrs to get your 10 hrs guaranteed daily rate, eventually they were told they would work to contract or action would be taken, the contract states you will be paid a minimum of 8 hrs,50 hrs guaranteed p.w. they now pay it.
Look at your contract,if it says you’ll be paid take it with you when you confront whoever is with holding your wages
