Wages- the reality?

The perennial driver shortage rages on, I see.

:joy::joy::joy:, well spotted moaster , if only !!

Absolute riches abound…

This months wages , 134 hrs , I’d be aiming for more if op as that’s e.midlands , tramping should be a fair bit more , I’ve earned more but too old / knackered / unhealthy to be chasing the ££££££& these days , it does me

Really? Or is that with ot, bonus etc? That’s only 33hrs a week so Ā£36ph , must be nights too.

Actually I heard Sainsbury’s are now on Ā£60k on nights

Agency pay.

Usually the USA mileage rate is significant-to-astronomical compared to what our Owner Operators get (although in recent years it’s been stagnant). There’s also a LOT more work and scope to do local or Over The Road (Tramping). Their DOT weigh-bridges are like mini-Vosa Way-Stations and take no-prisoners (usually) if your axles are over etc.

Sorry paddy ,234 hrs :joy::joy::joy:, average about 60 ish pw

No tanker , I’m full time for xpo now , but still on old contract , haven’t changed contract since being tuped over to them

It’s with o/t paddy I believe , but to be honest I can’t make sense of xpo pay slips , they don’t put hours at this rate or that rate , it’s just monthly pay & o/t

I’ve no idea what employer contribution is .

There is some night pay in that paddy , if I start 1/2 am I get to 6 am at night rate , same if I go after 6 pm I get night rate , but officially I’m a day shift driver , bonuses no , though as I’ve said above I’m not aware of what employer contributions are

Only thing I can think employer could pay contribute towards is the pension , so I’m guessing that what it is .

If you feel like that mate do what I did and tell them you’re cutting back…..you are still doing 60+ hours.

Not for the reasons that you point out that I cut back either btw, it’s just that I saw sense,… and everything I own is paid for, and kids all grown up (allegedlly :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:) so I thought sod it, enough’s enough.

I don’t know your circumstances, but will 3 or so days not do ya?….plus firms can’t get drivers like they used to so they are willing to accommodate you nowadays, I’ve a couple of mates who have done similar cut backs at other firms

As you maybe know I’m down to anywhere between 40/45 ish hours on a 3 and a half to 4 days, then 3 days off……..still tramping, could not be arsed to do days or nights…..so still got the n.out subs for ā€˜beer money’ as a bonus.

And I’m cutting back even more next year, one week off in 4….kinda ā€˜semi retired’ if ya like, but still doing a job I’m ok with so far, and all done at a reasonable pace that won’t kill me…..hopefully.

We’ve had this conversation before I think mate, but I’ve known many drivers in my time in the job who were constantly chasing money, maxing out, going like ā– ā– ā– ā–  whilst not eating and sleeping properly, then they retire and are dead within 6 months.

The job is sh mate and not worth burning yourself out for, and especially if you are doing it under the conditions (health etc) as you say you are.

Take a step back….:+1:
