Very few agency staff now, those that remain rarely get a full week same for nights many of them were taken on the others found work elsewhere.

Our basic is 39,780 (inclusive of retention bonus and fuel bonus). That is for 4am-6am starters who do multidrop fridge work. That is on a daily rate up to a certain amount of hours then OT rate kicks in. Based on what I have earned so far that figure will be around 45k for the year on a Mon-Fri. Averaging around 11 hours a shift. You also get a self tip bonus for loading and unloading which can be as high as £60-70 a week so is dependent on the runs you get but if you are a good worker and keep your head down you will get those runs.

If you tramped you would easily be on 50k+ a year.

Just about to go the opposite way for me.

A large ferry trailer company has just slashed their rates, and the company I work/worked for, have just laid me off because of it citing they can’t afford to keep me, (Last in first out) and that the bosses son has to go back on the road.

I was on £44k a year for pure day work, and oddly enough, an old boss of mine from 3 years ago rang me up, and offered me my old job back. I left on good terms, but the only problem is, it works out around £32k a year for primarily day work with one night out per week, max.

It’s a hard decision, but better to be in work, than out.

Such a shame that almost no one is willing to say which company or industry sector they’re working in.

ilearnt not to do that the hard way. trouble is people have long memories and if you say you work for a company and then have issues with a different company everyone assumes it was the origional one if that makes any sence.

I try not to name and shame on forums at least in public as my experience might not the the same as someone elses or it could be a different branch

I realise that, but if you’re in a specific sector like a milk tanker or whatever it would be helpful rather than just, I get this amount, but it’s not for you.

I’ve been with A.w.jenkinson for nearly 2 years. £45k is realistic and the £50k advertised is achievable with some weekend work. Take home is generally around £800 pw for 4 nights out. Hours vary but its not hard work. Better paying than transporters which I did previously and less hassle. I certainly won’t be on the move for the foreseeable future. Not the best paid perhaps, but reliable and fair to work for.

Yes, and linked to deals at other depots.

The pay is also weigthed to the local cost of living (housing)

50 pph pay rise this year ( to be fair company have lost total interest since loosing contract ) .
Also seems to be a massive influx of Indian / African drivers so I think you’ll end up with the pre- brexit eu driver effect on wages
Won’t impact me but going to hit drivers with mortgages etc in time , oh well was good while it lasted

I’ve noticed a lot of African drivers driving for the bigger companies like Culina. Are they given funding for learning to drive a lorry? If so, I would be really annoyed as my son is 20 years old and is in the process of doing his theory and it is costing him around £2,500

there is the boot camp scheme that is finishing in sept i belive. so too late to start now. However it may be that they already had the license before coming here on a skills shortage scam. weather that involves anything more than being able to drive in a straight line from nigeria or other countries again i couldnt comment.

What i can comment on are the rules that say people that come over here on a skills shortage visa is they can be paid 10% below the going rate. the company has to pay less ni and other perks. run it through a couple of fronts pretending to be agencies with all the umbrella schemes etc its big savings. All the legitimate agencies get priced out because they cant service the contracts as cheaply as the dodgy ones and hey presto everyone that works there has a strong sun tan and the companies get to cry and whinge that they cant find drivers. the gov etc comes up with some crazy plan and round and round we go.

I know of one company near to me that when i worked there there were people that had been there 30 years. one guy even lived in a caravan because he moved down to cornwall to be near his aging parents. 6 months after i left there i had to deliver for another company and apart from 2 people they all had to smile to be seen in the dark.

What’s the average going rate for nights. Hub trunks, pallet network work around the South or midlands?
Monday to Friday. Just curious. If anyone here is on it.

Few places are still doing boot camps funded hgv lessons but not many anymore.
Think the driver shortage is over now. Government for what they wanted the big companies for what they wanted

Ie to many drivers not enough jobs so they can keep the wages down knowing someone will work for minimum wage just so they can drive a truck..
Not know if applies to hgv lessons it not cheaper to take lessons in different parts of the country to get it cheaper?
Know you can with car lessons

there was a job advertised on here a month or so back. basic rate £17.28 with a 25% bonus for hours between midnight and 6am.

We are on £14.90 a hour time and a third after 45 but 1 hour a day taken off for dinner £50 bonus for doing what we are paid for correctly. Time and a half saturday. One of the burners we deliver to have a team of lads that instruct us which bay to tip in when we have tipped we pull forward and sweep the residue up to the bay. They then come over with either a brush or bobcat depending on how much there is.I asked one of them if the money was ok for what they do he said for 51 hours he had just under a £1000 before tax if he did over 60 hours he drew over a £1000 in his hand.More money for driving a brush ffs
