In 2003.
Tidying up in my office and found this.
Thought to be from September 2003. Driving for Tesco in Milton Keynes through a local agency. (who tried their very best to get away with underpaying me). Thanks Optimum.
Base rate £8.00 O/T £12.00
Sat. £12.00 Sun. £15.00
Just goes to show how much rates have(n’t) changed over 9 years whilst the cost of living has I reckon doubled. My heating oil used to be £28 a month, now its £108.
Over 5 days crossing a w/end I earned £638.25
The next day I did a double manned job with a 2 car transporter for £100 with the added benefit of getting my car back from MK with no diesel cost.
So not a bad week in all.
I used to drive down to MK, stay in digs, then come home. Diesel was 80p/litre. It was well worthwhile, wouldn’t be today.
I enjoyed the work I did for Tesco, apart from rolling a few sometimes heavy and over loaded cages around, it was easy. (air suspension is very useful )
They knew I had travelled to work for them and wanted to get the hours in. If I got back from a run in good time, they’d find me a local trunk to another depot.
