Hi

my first every request on here, not expecting a great responce but here goes.

just wondered has anybody got any pics of wag and drag combos  in particular the drags as driving up and down the motorway i sometimes see weird and wonderful combos, from the axle combination (3 axle, 4 axle, all axles bunched together or axles all equally spaced apart along the trailer) size/lengh of the drag, to the design of the body on the drag compared to the body on the towing truck.

sad i know   but just curious,

cheers

Hi boys

My old FIAT
& my old 140

I take it that Fiat was Italia reg, I remember seeing all those strange axle combinations along with rhd in the late seventies. I never took that much notice at the time but how did it cope with humpback bridges?
When did you work for the Swiss co? We did a lot at one time for Spedag at Basel. Delivering steel to a dock on the Rhine, sometimes groupage all over Ch after dropping the excess off at Muttenzs. Chem from Ceiby Gigy or chip board from the Ch German boarder.

Regards Keith

I jacked the job in because of that FIAT. I was coming down a slope in France on a wet road in the mountains & looked in the mirror & that ■■■■■■ trailer was total broadside then it turned the truck into the rocks on the left hand side of the road - then switched it ot the other side which was a steep drop! The only way to control it was to stab the foot brake on & off. The prob was that there were no spring brakes & when yer air was gone all that would happen was a buzzer would sound & a little red warning lever would rise but the truck was in free fall. I managed to straighten it up but two hours later when I stopped to chat with Jock Hastie my legs were still shaking. I did the Italy & jacked in. I think Dave Jeffries took it on after that. To reverse there was a lever on the front of the trailer that locked the three axles in a straight line. I did Swiss on & off for over 25 yrs. When I had the 140 I slept at St. Louis & the temp dropped to -34C & that old gal was the only one to start on the border. Great truck but later in the year I got pneumonia & still have to watch it in cold air. I spend every Winter in Thai these days. Happy New Year.

How did you turn it with axles locked in a straight line■■?

It worked only if you wanted to go in a straight line -there was a little bit of leaway to the left or the right . V.short A bar ,it would go pear shape in a split second.
