Wag doing managers cpc

Rodney… Let’s get an operator CPC
(I’ll ask Cassandra to do it… She won’t mind),
Then we’ll buy a truck & next week we’ll be millionaires.

I’m sure she’ll relish the idea of me being out on the road 5-6 nights a week while I’m pulling loads for freight forwarding agents I find on websites

peirre:
I’d say the home study option is far harder than the attendance course, solely due to the time required to focus on it. Also IMO the operator CPC is something the OD should sit themself

She’s a teacher so will have 6 bloody weeks to learn it over the summer

Don’t be offend but I know lots of couples where the Mrs does the cpc and then has left, Just make the effort and do it your self ,

I’m sure she’ll find time to study, in between marking the class homework, preparing lessons, inset days etc etc. :unamused:

As someone who has tried both the home study & classroom courses, I’d take the classroom option every time. If you asked those who have passed, they’ll tell you the amount of time required to concentrate on it is better in a classroom environment

Agreed!! ^^

There are a whole pile of distractions when doing homestudy, but there’s no substitute for the ability to ask a question and get a good answer in ‘real’ time as is the case in a classroom.

Also, when doing this in a classroom, there’s the opportunity to discuss something ‘live’ with people who come from a cross-section of transport roles.

Quite probably. My brother is a teacher and did a hypnotherapy course and practiced for a while whilst teaching. He then took up extreme running where he’s done events which have been 140 miles long and he eventually set up his own business and runs his own events, all whilst being a teacher at a secondary school and teaching a course which basically all students have to do with him so hundreds of reports to write etc.

Don’t believe all the bollox you’re told about them having no time to even scratch their arse. Quite sure that it is the case in the first couple of years but if you’re 4/5/6 years into your career and you’re still in the same boat as when you started in this respect then you need to take a long hard look at yourself because you are doing it wrong.

yorkielee:
I’m starting on the agency tomorrow for stobarts for the grand total of £9.25 a hour with 45mins taken off for break. I cant wait… said no one ever

Barnsley - £13.75 an hour?

Its ok for her to do the CPC, and then become your transport manager…at least when you get caught speeding, or overloading, over your hours etc, she will get punished as well, either it goes on her records, or she gets done as well for encouraging you…have you thought that one out…whereas if you took it, and become an O/D…only you can be responsible for your own demise.

On another thought…she has to do a lot of studying, for the questions and answers depend on the amount of knowledge she has about the transport industry, something you already have…the exam is mostly common sense, or at least what you/her have studied in the books, and there is a degree of multiple choice, equally about common sense.

Dont think that because you live up north, where its cheaper to live ( supposedly ) than the south…the answer to your financial worries, may not lie in buying a truck, and become richer, the same is if you moved down south where the rates are higher, but so is the cost of living.

I have friends who are owner drivers, with all the responsiblility of what goes with that, but at the end of the day, would be better off being employed, on good rates, and at least not having to worry about sleepless nights…so make sure you do your homework properly…the price of the truck and or trailer…Insurance for the vehicles…insurance for the goods ( GIT ) public liability etc etc.the cost to park, the rates for the work, the fuel cost…and not forgetting how much you have to show to vosa to show them how competent you are going to be, which is around £6000 per vehicle…good luck.

Also what’s her degree in?

If it’s something like Drama. Going to the exam and pretending to be a tree probably isn’t gonna help.

If she sat in a classroom and did the course it would cost her 3 times as much as someone else doing the same. She would have to take time off work unpaid and then get a supply teacher to cover for her plus the cost of the course. I have £20k sat in the back from what I earned last year. I was working at wren kitchens n smashing the hours as I want something better for myself. Some have said I might as well do it myself incase she left. True she could, she could also take the house, car ( kids if we had them) so to me that’s a stupid argument. I trust her n she trusts me. I have had some people pm me giving me the best of luck n wishing me well. Thank you. That wasn’t why I posted on her but thanks it shows there are some nice people still out there. I just think if I don’t do it id go nuts. Anyone tramping for less than 600 plus night out money is nuts. Some of the same agency’s are offering better money just by moving to the next city. If drivers started to tell people where to get off people would soon realise they put wagers up or they drive there truck themselves. I just want to earn a honest income n be happy. Working for 9.25 with breaks taken off isn’t. And like I have said I have been offered jobs on even less. £8.50 Nigel rice transport winters in hull £8 then £10 £22 a night out. Drive a hour away n you can get over £100 a week more

I’m getting my girlfriend to do the managers cpc … as its equivalent to a A level

What!!. Any half wit can pass operators CPC, spelling your own name correctly and you’re half way there. Ops CPC = one week course & A levels take 2 years. CPC equivalent to a 5 yr old end of year assessment exam (I’ve seen my grandson’s). If you work in transport you’ll find it easier than your girlfriend. Passing your HGV test(2 weeks) is harder than Ops CPC.

You got yours then? When did you pass? What marks did you get?

Please tell me you have actually done it before making comments like that.

A degree in Drama isn’t all about pretending to be a tree, :imp:

Sometimes you have to pretend to be a Rock.

Well I’m going to wish her good luck

I did home study operators cpc. My notes had 30 sections in them, I basically sat down for 2 hours a night and read through and digested a section every night for 30 days. This time includes going through lots of mock questions for both exams.

I passed first time, both exams, I had no transport industry experience until I did the home study. I found it relatively straight forward.

I’m now in the process of applying for an operators license for the company I work for!
