Hi anyone know what can go wrong with Waeco Kettle, I’ve only had it a couple of months? Ta
Fuse.
Wiring inside the plug.
Switch.
Element - if left on dry…
Are you sure it’s the kettle end and not the truck end?
I had one years ago,a good bit of kit and quicker than most but after a couple of years or so it started to have a rubber smell when on.
On looking closer, inside of the kettle, the element was melting the plastic around it
When fitting it I did cut the ■■■ lighter end off and wired it straight into the fuse box but that shouldn’t have affected it.
You can’t actually turn them off if you change your mind half way through making a brew as they are auto-cut off so it shouldn’t burn itself out but who knows.
I’d think the wiring in the plug would be the most likely culprit.
If you leave it full of water whilst travelling about ready to flick on whilst you are on your way then if it’s bumpy the water can slosh about and get into the switch and corrode the wiring.
I always cut the cig plug off and fit a Hella one instead, and leave in plugged in so I’m not disturbing the wiring too much.
I find they usually last a couple of years before giving up completely, if it’s only a couple of months old send it back for repair. I’ve tried cheaper alternatives but found that they do not last at all and always gone back to the Waeco.
Mine is still going strong after 6 months or so, great that there’s no exposed element inside so rarely needs de scaling, I only put mineral water in it as well as I’m lazy. Kettle envy, went through 2 or 3 rubbish ones before spunking for the waeco one.
Still under guarantee? Just take it back, sorted.
My top tip when purchasing any truck kettle of any make is… always keep the receipt because they will always break.
Wise words.
get a new gaz bottle

I think it’s the thermal coupling, If you bought it at Lymm Truckstop take it back. If you have the receipt they will replace it. It will happen again with this kettle as it seems to be a weakness. I have had one for quite a few years, mine “broke” after the warranty period, I couldn’t buy a replacement thermal coupling so I soldered a piece of heavy duty wire in its place. The kettle is still protected by the inline fuse and worked perfectly. I used it until I retired in July. The kettle is at least 5 years old. Regards Kevmac47.
Thank you, I will give that a whirl, what does the thermal coupling look like? Ta
I had a look inside, there is a little black relay box, & a resister looking component clamped to the bottom? Is that the thermal coupling? Or is it in the handle? Ta
If its difficult to fill you may have it upside down.
Finally got mine screwed to the dash yesterday & my doesn’t it look swish, I can turn it on with my toe as well without getting out of bed!
with all things electrical
start at the beginning (fuse)
and wok to the end (element)
do you have a multi meter

Its a few years ago so they may have changed the look of the coupling, but mine looked like an old fashioned radio resistor. Anyway it will be connected to the live feed at the base of handle. hope this helps. Regards Kev.
Thanks: kevmac47, Kettle is working again… Snipped out the resistor looking thingy, soldered it up, & heh presto, good as new… & it still clicks off although I will keep an eye on it…cheers again.
Edit: I melted the plug a month or so ago which in turn melted the outlet & nearly set fire to my curtains as I was out to the loo. Had been smelling a bit the last few times but I hang about in some smelly places do hadn’t zeroed it in the kettle.
I broke my rule of only half filling it which I think puts a lot of strain in it if you fill it right up.
