“Here is a W Keith & Son Ltd - Flookburgh Seddon Atkinson 400, and Unsworth’s of Cartmel ERF, both decorated & waiting to participate in the carnival in Grange over Sands in the mid 80’s. ■■■■■■■ UK.”
The Unsworth’s ERF is in Robsons of Carlisle livery, it is a sleeper cab Robsons never owned any sleeper cabs themselves in those days.

Dennis why did T Brady run lots and lots of orange trailers? in the 80’s see above.
I can remember Kieths of Flookburgh, Earley 60s one of thier drivers was loading alongside me at P&Gs Trafford Park, he had a brand new Andy Cap Guy, I cant remember his name, but I recall him being a canny bloke to talk to, I asked him where Flookburgh was , which was of course was Lankashire in those good old days, The next time I met up with him was in Sheffield We both loaded off a firm, but alas I cant bring thier name to mind, Happy Days Eh, Regards Larry.
Anyone remember W Keith & Son Ltd of Flookburgh always had second hand vehicles, but a smart fleet.
They used to have a neighbour called Shaws Transport.

Hiya George yea I remember "Bill " Keith well !Jack Brady and I used to meet him regularly ! His real name was Errington but you darn’t call him it !!! He was universally known as “Kruger Keith” and he sure was a charachter his main traffic was Pig Iron from Millom and along with other hauliers it came as quite a blow when the Iron works suddenly closed in March 68 . Keiths would be one of the main hauliers and they ran an immaculate fleet of mainly Guy 6 & 8 wheelers ( some steers among the 6 wheelers as well) tippers and flats if I remember. Their fleet was very well maintained even before M.O.T. plating and testing came in . Jack Brady used to say if he could get Kruger to become his Fleet Engineer and keep him away from quoting rates he would have the best of both worlds !! But Kruger was a law unto him-self and he would always go his own way ! He did seem to run secondhand motors but I think if my memory serves me he had just bought two new Big J tractors and tipping trailers just as Millom closed ! But I 'm sure there will be someone from Flookburgh or thereabouts who will know a lot more than me about W. Kieth & Son Ltd.And I would hope there might be some photos appearing on the thread of Keithy’s superb fleet .In anticipation Bewick.

Yes they did. There main customer was Robert Mcbrides of Barrow but when Stobart got the contract Shaws closed the gates and sold the land to make way for Batemans BMW showroom.

I think it must have been the late 80s when billy keith finished haulage. And in the end all he was doing was sub-contracting off Bradys. In the end he had a few Volvo FL10s and a Seddon Atkinson 401.

I was told by Kruger that he would load two Guy steers in Millom with 10/11 ton each then bring them out to Flookburgh and back them up the ramp and tip them into an Invincible 8 wheeler !! Now thats what I call efficiency !!They sure broke the mold when Bill Keith passed on ! Bewick.

Anyhow Stevie how come you got the top motor at Brady’s where was Clarkey when you were taking poll postition ? Anyway I heard it couldn’t pull the skin off a rice pudding !!! Dennis.
Peter was running the garage by the time i got on the road and not long after that started on his own.
If you mean the Volvo FH it was only a 340 but was a beter puller than the 350 merc and it had a very effective exhaust brake. Our FH was L307MHH and Richard Holmes had L308MHH which big Norman drove but that was the bigger 380.

Steve I thought Chris Liversedge was the fleet engineer as i met him in London once or twice when he was down with young BoB — had morning coffee with them on Harrods veranda after the ■■■■ up the night before !! Dennis.

I’m sure that was common practice at the time because Syd Preston kept a Drott ready for re-loading and when we were in the workshop there was often the sound of pig iron being tipped off or reloaded but we never paid any attention to what was going where. My only picture of one of Keith’s motors is this twin steer warrrior that looks like it was being disposed of.
